At various times during its history, RoyalOak has been home to several other major businesses including: Chrysler Corporation's Dodge Division Headquarters from 1957-1959; International Harvester’s Studebaker Division Headquarters from 1961-1963; United States Steel’s Toledo Arsenal Factory from 1919-1920; Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s Sneed Plant from 1926-1927; General Motors Corporation’s Flint Assembly Plant from 1951-1952; Plains Allis Inc.'s Halsted Engine Plantfrom 1958–1959; PPG Industries' Plastics Products Divisionfrom 1974-1976 and 1982–1983 - today known as Allied Waste Management Services plc.; Ford Motor Company's Rouge plant began production here on July 1st 1948 under licence from Willys agency responsible for all Ford passenger cars outside North America Royal Oak also contains numerous heritage buildings such as: Haines Block Works which remains an active manufacturing site today with operations taking place within what once constituted the largest brick building ever constructed inside an American city limits ; Jardine Rubber Works where a world class rubber company once operated ; American National Tobacco Company where smoking prohibition effectively ended half a century earlier than many similar companies across Europe ; Armour Glass Works which specifically manufactured window glass products such as stained glass windows throughout much of its history before moving onto other product lines around World War II ; Willys agency responsible for all passenger cars outside North America - now known as Allied Waste Management Services plc., home to both their iconic red rooster emblem on main street/building facade along with dozens if not hundreds more historical photos , stories & artifacts
The first Europeans to explore and map Royal Oak were French traders in the late 17th century. The area that is now Royal Oak was part of the Huron Confederation, a group of Indian nations that controlled much of what is now Michigan. In 1813, when Detroit was founded as the capital of Michigan, Royal Oak became one of the city's first wards. In 1835, when Michigan became a state, Royal Oak remained an unincorporated community until it was annexed by Detroit in 1837.
