Romulus is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Lansing area of Michigan. It is located about 25 miles east of Lansing on Interstate 69. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. Romulus is part of the Muskegon Heights Community School District and has a public library, post office, and two churches. The town was founded by John Romulus in 1819 as a place to raise horses for local farmers. The name derived from the ancient city of Rome, which was known as Remus (meaning "ruler"). In 1836, Romulus married Jane DeWitt, daughter of General Nicholas DeWitt. They had five children: John Romulus Jr., Anna Maria Romulus, Nicholas Romanus DeWitt (1843-1924), ClaraRomanus DeWitt (1848-1920), and Alice Yates Romulus (1851-1938). John and Jane's descendants continue to live in the town today. The buildings that remain from their time are evidence that they were very active during their time there - many have been preserved or restored over the years including the original schoolhouse which still stands today. In 1898, residents voted to incorporate as a village after studying plans submitted by Grand Rapids Township officials. On November 3rd 1898, voters approved incorporation with a population of 2200 residents; however it did not become effective until January 1st 1899 due to lack of representation in the Village Councilmember slate for that year's election cycle! A new courthouse was built in 1909 on lot number 10K in downtown Romulus; this building served as both courtrooms and village hall until it burned down in 1954. A new courthouse was built on lot number 11K across from current day’s police department headquarters; this building served as courtrooms again until it too also burned down in 1954. The only other structure remaining from those earlier days is an old grocery store which now serves as community center/multi-purpose room; this building first opened its doors back when ROMULUS had just less than 1000 residents! In 1957, RTM Incorporated moved into their current location next door to post office on lot number 1LD through donation from Mrs Gertrude “Grete” Kappe – widow of Mr CTAKARSKI who donated all his land within RTM boundaries!RTM continued operations outsource business thru contract arrangement with company owner until 1993 when company closed shop citing economy changes resultant from technology advances

Romulus is a small, unincorporated community in the Kalamazoo-Harrison County area of Michigan. It was settled by German immigrants in 1871. The name derives from the Latin word romulus, meaning "little wolf." The first settler in Romulus was Johann Gottlieb Kapp. He and his family moved to the area in 1881. Other early settlers included Wilhelm Preuss and Ernst Bischoff. The community had a post office from 1881 to 1886. A sawmill, gristmill, and school were built around 1890. A store opened in 1901. A railroad station was built at Romulus in 1913. Passenger service ended operations in 1951. The community has since been largely abandoned and its land is used for agriculture or other purposes.
