As part of its incorporation into Detroit, Romulus also agreed to build a new courthouse and jail within two years from when it ratified its annexation agreement withDetroit The town quickly grew due to its location near Wayne County seat Ann Arbor as well as access to trade routes through Indiana and Illinois However, during World War II much of what remained of Romulus were destroyed by bombing raids by United States forces during the Battle of Normandy on June 6th 1944 Only about 20 percent remains today including many structures still standing such as the forums original facade
