The original residents of Romulus were farmers who came to the area during the mid-19th century to take advantage of new land grants created by President James K. Polk. This hard work paid off in 1870 when Romulus became one of only two communities in Michigan that received federal funding for agricultural research! After years of struggle and perseverance, however, many residents lost hope that their community would ever achieve any real success beyond subsistence level; though they did manage to create several successful businesses over the years (e.g., a grocery store and bakery). Despite these setbacks, locals kept trying until they finally succeeded at creating something resembling an everyday American town: A library was built in 1907 (the first public library west of Chicago), taxes were raised so that more money could be spent on infrastructure (including roads and schools), streets were laid out with characteristically Roman names (e.g., Grosse Pointe Ave.), retail stores opened up (one being named “The Lion’s Den” after an early resident donated such valuable land), lakeshore development began (a golf course/ Resort was eventually built next door), etcetera...In 1916™—more than 30 years after its establishment—Romulus achieved municipal incorporation as a village!™

In the month of October, 1887, Romulus was a small town in Hancock County, Michigan. It had been founded by Augustus Mason and his family about two years previous. The town was named for the god Romanus, who ruled over all nations before he was overthrown by Jupiter. In 1892, Romulus became one of the towns in Sandusky County when it was organized. On July 4th, 1907, Romulus held its first parade and celebration to celebrate its centennial year. At that time it had a population of only fifty-six people. On November 15th of that year the town reached its second anniversary and hosted an anniversary parade with floats maderepresenting all seventy-five businesses in the community. On February 25th, 1912, Romulus celebrated its hundredth birthday with a parade and picnic as well as a dinner at the Masonic Lodge room. In 1916 they built their first school which served grades 1-8 and still stands today as part of Community Schools District No. 2 in Hancock County. In 1928–1929 there were two hurricanes that knocked out power to most parts of Michigan but did not damage or kill any people or property in Romulus except some downed wires on Main Street which still remain today (they are now part of the public art piece called "Wires from History" located on First Avenue). On September 8th 1929 during what is known as "The Great Lakes Open House", many dignitaries from across Canada came to see how things were going with Detroit having gone into receivership just prior to their visit; this event helped makeRomulus known throughout North America for being an important cultural center during this time periodalongside other communities such as Buffalo Niagara Falls and Toronto Ontario
In 1836, the Potawatomi nation was defeated by the United States in the Battle of Little Big Horn. The Treaty of Fort Henry ceded all of Minnesota to the United States and also gave American settlers access to the Flint Hills and other areas in central Michigan. This led to rapid development within Romulus Township, as new land was developed for farming, mining, and lumbering. In particular, Romulus saw a significant increase in its population after railroad construction began running through the township in 1857. The town became an important transportation hub for goods moving between eastern Michigan and Northwestern Indiana. As more people came to live within Romulus Township, it grew into a booming community that boasted a large store district and several churches. By 1907, however, Romulus had largely disappeared from history due to its decline as a commercial center.
