Romulus is a small town in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,573 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing Metropolitan Statistical Area. Romulus is located on the east bank of the Ottawa River and is bordered by Goodyear to the north, Allegany to the east, and Cheboygan to the south. The village was founded in 1824 by John Fenton as part of a land grant from George Washington. It became known as Fentonville after John's grandson, also named John Fenton. The village began to grow rapidly during the 1830s when new roads were built connecting it with other settlements in what is now Macomb County. In 1836, President Andrew Jackson created Romulus Township from parts of Goodyear Township and removed all but a few residents from Fentonville so that they could live closer together under one roof. By 1840, Romulus had a store and four houses; it had 30 people and $1 worth of goods per capita. By 1847 there were 180 residents living in 141 houses and $5 per capita in property value; this amounted to $10 million today (). In 1849-1850Romulus constructed two large brick churches: First Presbyterian Church (now known as Stroudsburg Presbyterian) on Main Street and Second Baptist Church (now Good Samaritan United Methodist). The first church cost $2,000 ($ in 2018 dollars) while the second cost only $700 ($ ). After these two buildings were completed, construction began on a three-story schoolhouse which was completed in 1850 for an estimated cost of $3,000 (). In 1859-1860the village erected a three-story blockhouse at its west end which served asbergroupment for local militia during US Civil War hostilities against Native American tribes along what is now I-57 near present day Syracuse Road ()formerly known as White Earth Indian Reservation (). This blockhouse remains standing today next to Interstate 94 () just south of Romulus proper on State Route 511 (). At this time Romulus had about 200 residents who spent their winters near I-94 () while their summer residences lay around nearby Utica or Onondaga Lake (); total community infrastructure consisted only of pumpkins for subsistence purposes (!), water wheels used for ferrying goods acrossriver (), some fences (), some streetlights (),and one jail (-)). A post office opened at Romulus on November 8th,.1861(), serving villagers until 1912(). A flour mill operated at this site until 1898 when it burned down due to pollution caused by runoff into river from agricultural operations nearby.). In 1924 there was an electric light plant established with power being generated by 24 generators situated on six farmsteads scattered throughout rural area providing service until 1957 when all generation went out due to damage sustained by ice storms). Today much evidence remains visible following winter storms including foundation remnants,,pumpkin patches.,and even 2 abandoned steam engines!

Romulus was a city in Michigan and is located on the western shore of Lake Huron. It is said that the origin of this name comes from the story of Hercules, who carried off thevils and tools belonging to Rome's enemies to Romulus in order to build his city. The first permanent settler in what is now Romulus was John Coffin, who arrived in 1814. He built a cabin on a hill overlooking the present-day waterfront area. The town began commercial development soon after, with businesses such as an armory and cooperage opening up. In 1824, James Kincaid set up shop at what is now First National Bank Square. By 1830, there were over 100 businesses operating in Romulus. As Romulus grew more established, it became necessary for merchants and citizens to meet together for town meetings or other important events. This system of government was eventually replaced by a one-man rule under mayor George Sutherlin in 1855. In 1865, Mayor Sutherlin donated land to create what is now State Street square, which served as the town's main thoroughfare until 1912 when it was renamed State Avenue after then-Governor Frank Lautenberg's donation of money for that purpose. During World War II, Romulus played an important role as one of two Landing Zones along I-75 on behalf of General Eisenhower's Operation Neptune's Spear which aimed to breach Japan's military defenses across 125 miles of central Japan
