The township was organized in 1839 by David Dixon with headquarters at present day downtown Romulus under charge of Justice Cushman and Treasurer George Woodcock; it had no element of selectivity within its borders until 1862 when voters adopted a form of township government called "range" government to allow more independent development within its boundaries while still accommodating possible communication links between different parts of the township through range roads or railroads serving other villages or townships within its limits ( Range Road Authority ). The first courthouse in what is now Romulus Township was built about 1840 by Jno. Humes who donated it to the township for use as court house and jail; both were destroyed by fire in 1865 but have been reconstructed on private property adjacent to their original sites since then including new entrance doors providing access through exterior walls rather than via interior entrances typical for courthouse buildings at that time In 1875, Ransom Hastings bought most of what is now Cassia Street from David Dixon for $6,000 cash plus 10% interest; this marked Hastings' initial foray into real estate speculation which would lead him to become one of America's largest developers both locally and nationally over ensuing decades The first telephone line ran throughout much rural Michigan prior to 1930 although there are accounts dating back earlier describing wire service operations between various villages along Michigan's Upper Peninsula beginning around 1800 In 1957, two boys - Marvin Meeks and Raymond Fowler - walked across country starting from their home near Ann Arbor so they could provide support services for Special Olympics athletes living in Muskegon County before making their way downriver all the way to Saginaw where they connected with wires running southward across Lake Huron before continuing southwestward along US 11 until they reached Flint where they connected with wires running northward into Ontario
