Romulus is a small town in Isabella County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wyoming Metropolitan Statistical Area. Romulus is located on the right bank of the Little Miami River and has a per capita income of $27,350 according to 2010 Census estimates. The first settler in what is now Romulus was Isaac Kapp who arrived in 1838 and built a cabin on the banks of the river. The post office originally called Romulus "Kapp's Ferry," but it was renamed after John Fisk, an early settler in nearby Wyoming Territory (now Wyoming), because he donated land for a ferry across the Little Miami River. In 1845, while traveling through Isabella County on his way towing a wagonload of potatoes over the river onto his farm near present-day Warsaw Township, Fisk met George Washington Carver Jr., then working as a farmer near Battle Creek. Carver offered to take him home with him if he could get 7 miles (13 km) of road from Wabasha to Carver's farm; Kapp agreed and helped build that road later that year. In 1846, when Detroit became one of America's newly independent cities, citizens of Romulus petitioned for incorporation as a village by name only – not bylaws or voting rights like those enjoyed by other villages throughout Michigan – so that they might have more direct control over their affairs without feeling beholden to larger communities downstream or upstream. After much discussion and reflection among its residents – including John Fisk himself – Romulus incorporated as a village on November 12th 1847 under charter number 17-1-2(). That same year saw another milestone for the village: its first election held under Village Charter No 2 which authorized Mayor James Aiken to serve one term instead of two terms required by law at that time due to increasing population densities within Romanzuli boundaries.. . Over time many decisions made about business and social welfare were delegated down from Town Council members until finally becoming fully autonomous from Town Hall authority effective January 1st 1959 thanks largely to Mrs Eleanor Weiser who chaired our Board during this time period
