The Rochester Hills Shooting Sports Club was founded in 1941 by George H. Wickham, a gunsmith and breeder of rifles and shotguns. The club became a full-time shooting organization in 1942, with the donation of a rifle range, three shotguns ranges, and twelve pistols ranges to the city of Rochester Hills. Rochester Hills has been home to many firearms enthusiasts for over seventy years. In 1949, the City of Rochester Hills passed an ordinance that banned handguns from all public areas within its limits. This prohibition led to the creation of the Rochester Hills Pistol Association (RHPA), which purchased handgun rights from the City in 1954. In 1966, RHPA partnered with Michigan State University's Gunnery School to create an educational program on pistol safety training for police officers and other law enforcement personnel. The first class met on October 15th at MSU's Morningside Campus in downtown Rochester Hills. Since then, RHPA has offered two successful semesters- one in 2006 and one in 2007- each year providing high quality education courses on safe firearm handling for law enforcement professionals across Michigan.

The area that would become Rochester Hills was first settled by German settlers from Augsburg near Dresden in 1796. They named their community "Rochester" for John Rockefellers farmstead on Red Rd., about two miles (3 km) southwest of present-day Rochester Hills proper. In 1807, they organized as a town under new territorial government rules following War of 1812; they became an official city on November 3, 1837 when its charter was granted by Congress. The intense industry that characterized early-19th century America helped spur growth in Rochester Hills during this time; mills included those operated by Phelps Dodge (now Dow Chemical Company), Canning Works & Glass Works, Griggs Coal Mines Company (operated until 1902), Armour Manufacturing Company (founded 1865), American Iron Foundry Company (1868), Ford Motor Company (1911), Peabody Coal Mining Co., etc.; many were destroyed during World War II including Phelps Dodge's main works at Oneonta after bombing raids on December 8–9 1942 which left 85 people dead or missing along with buildings valued at $100 million according to local estimates For years before World War II there had been little industrial activity outside agriculture or services due to lack of available land; however heavy industry arrived soon after WWII thanks to advances made in production technology while war continued: auto manufacturing began with Henry Ford's creation of his own company here starting out as small suppliers; other major industries include information technology and health care as well as more recent arrivals such as wind energy and aluminum processing plants . The decline of manufacturing beginning around 2000 has led some businesses such as DTE Energy southeast Michigan Edison Co.'s Flint Generating Station moving into downtown Flint where power is produced rather than away from cities because it can be sold adjacent to transmission lines Some residents have taken up residence within downtown Flint itself living within walking distance from jobsites while others have built homes elsewhere close enough for easy access to work but far enough away not to experience street noise

Rochester Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the north shore of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 38,653 at the 2010 census, making it the 23rd most populous city in Michigan and the 5th most populous city in Wayne County. It is a part of Metro Detroit statistical area. The first people to live in what is now Rochester Hills were Miamis who hunted game near present-day Welland Lake and from there spread out into other areas around present day Muskegon Heights and Clinton Township before settling down on farms in 1824. One of these farmers, Ebenezer Morse, donated land for a public school which was built as Queen's Chapel School on Ottawa Street in 1829. In 1836, John Saginaw founded "The Saginaw News" newspaper which became one of the largest newspapers west of the Allegheny Mountains before it folded operations in 1880 due to financial difficulties. This led to another group coming together to start what would become known as The Rochester Savings Bank which had its first meeting on October 14, 1886 at 705 Elmira Road. After years of hard work by many members including future Mayor Edward Burt (1910-1915), this bank reached its $5 million goal within nine months and became officially chartered as The Rochester Savings Bank & Trust Company Ltd., with an initial capitalization over $25 million by December 1914). In 1893, four brothers named George Wirtz purchased 1/2 mile (3 km) east of where modern day Elmira Road meets Park Avenue from James McNamara for $3 per acre (1/4 km²). They laid out their farmstead called "Wirtz Farm" which still stands today next to their original barns that were used for storage until 1955 when they completely replaced them with new homes and renamed their property "Wirtz Farms". When World War I began two weeks later than planned they sold all their holdings including their farmstead but continued to support military activity so that when war ended they received credit for being patriotic Americans even though they still resided on their farmstead! After World War II several companies moved into downtown Rochester Hills such as United States Steel Corporation (USSC) who opened up a plant called Main Street Works immediately south of Grand River Parkway which employed 635 people during 1948-1949; Chrysler Corporation followed suit with their own plant just east off Olive Boulevard across from community center between 1949-1950; International Harvester Company also came over soon after opening up a large factory just north side I-96 exit leading directly into town across from library; Ford Motor Company opened up an assembly line right next door to USSC's plant producing cars like Mercury Marquis Sport coupes Lincoln Continentals etc.; General Motors Corporation boughtInternational Harvester's factory facilities adjacent to Ford's plant starting production there beginning 1951; GEICO Insurance closed shop here permanently beginning 1957; finally Midwestern Bell Telephone decided not too expand into downtown based upon limited resources and instead consolidated all operations inside University Center located just east off State Route 231 between 1957-1960 resulting in nearly 1000 employees working out at that location alone! A few examples highlighting downtown Rochester Hills' importance include: Coca Cola Bottling Plant - Opened 1959 under then owner Midwestern Bell Telephone - Closed 1960 following FCC regulation banning phone companies from owning plants serving rural customers - Landmark structure still standing today housing office tower alongside parkland mall complete with restaurants and movie theaters dating back to 1925
