Riverview is a small, Midwestern town in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 5,000 at the time of its incorporation in 1871, and only grew to 10,000 by 1920. One significant local industry during this time was optical accessory manufacturing. In particular, Riverview became known for producing high-quality telescopes and telescopes accessories. The first optical accessory manufacturer in Riverview was J.B. Hargrave & Sons (now part of Bausch & Lomb). They produced eyeglasses and other optical equipment from 1875 until their bankruptcy in 1907. The company’s products were sold through independent merchants throughout the Upper Peninsula. In 1918, American Optical Company began production in Riverview as one of several new optical companies founded by Bernard Morse at that time with the goal of developing America’s largest telescope factory. American Optical Company would go on to become one of the most successfulEyeproducts manufacturers in history and continue production into the 21st century. During World War II, many residents of Riverview took up arms to help fight for their country and make a difference in the war effort. Some notable residents who supported military service include: Druella McKnight (who donated her house to be used as an ammunition dump), Mr. Kapp (who donated his land to be used as a munitions plant), Mrs.(Mrs.) Cook (a resident who raised money for troops via bake sales),and Rev.(Rev.) John Averill (a minister who gave blood drives). This patriotism towards country played a significant role in instilling community spirit throughout upper peninsula communities during wartime- something that has continued into today

Riverview is a city in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,451 at the 2010 census. Riverview is southeast of Detroit and north of Ann Arbor. It is part of the Metro Detroit area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Riverview were French traders in 1689. By 1795, the area had become part of the Huron Confederation and by 1807 it was under British rule as a trading post on the Rouge River. In 1814, when American forces invaded Canada and took control of that country, they made their way south through Michigan and into Washtenaw County to take possession of Riverview as part of their territory. The town site was laid out in 1815 by Jno. Ligonier, who built a store there on land he had purchased from the Hurons near Ottawa Mills Township (now Ottawa). The first settler in what would become Riverview was John Cookman with his family in 1816; they erected a log cabin on an hill overlooking the river below their house. Cookman named his new settlement after Sir George Mackenzie – governor-general of Upper Canada at that time – for assistance he had given during an unsuccessful uprising against British rule over that province some years earlier. In 1824–25, Colonel Lewis Cass (1797-1863) visited what would become RiverVIEW while serving as adjutant general for General Henry Dearborn’s army during Ford’s War (1812-13). He gave notice to local farmers that he needed seed corn for his troops so they could reinforcement during this war effort; many potential settlers responded to this advertisement and began arriving in droves from eastern Michigan beginning in early October 1824.[1] When Cass moved into what becameRiverVIEW he did so with three other men: Daniel Trimble (1796-1862), James Biddle (1800-1872) and Solomon Stowell (1800-1860). They were followed soon afterwards by Josephine Fuller born about 1800 who also lived hereabouts until her death circa 1860; she may have been one of 4 children born to Nicholas Fuller Sr., Nicholas Fuller Jr., Mary Jane Fuller or Elizabeth Ann Couch all residents hereabouts between 1800 and 1830 according to family history & genealogy sources consulted..[2][3][4][5] "From its earliest days,...the town site lay upon high ground commanding both sides of the river which flowed immediately opposite it...about two miles square." Census records show that by 1840 there were "some fifty families" living withinriverVIEW limits but most likely growth continued slowly due largely to Indian hostilities which continued unabated until 1865 when Ulysses S Grant's Indian Removal Act forced all Native Americans living within 6 miiles eastward along US 69 south including those living near present dayRiverVIEWerto leave their homes or be killed without warning or opportunity for compensation[6]." From 1870 onward growth accelerated providing justification for erectionof public buildings such as churches/temples/schools etc starting around 1880 although private dwellings continue up until date especially along 3rd & 4th Streets where today several small businesses operate viz.: Chinese dry goods store fronting Third Street since 1903,[7]French bakery next door [8], pizzeria [9], hair salon [10], laundry & repair shop adjacenttoEast African Bakery across Fourth Street since 1978 - busy 24 hr day & 7 days a week

The Riverview community in east Lansing, Michigan was founded in 1868. The name of the community comes from the river that flows through it. The river is a tributary of the Grand River and forms part of the border between Lansing and Monroe County. The first settlers in Riverview were farmers who arrived in 1868. They built homes on what is now the corner ofCenter Street and Zion Avenue. In 1870, a wagon train carrying goods to Detroit reachedriverview after traveling for three days across country. In 1876, a school was built in Riverview by Rev. John Denton and Mrs. Anna Gilchrist. It was the first public school in Lansing and served students from kindergarten through eighth grade until 1914 when it closed due to lack of funds. In 1886, Jens Jensen purchased land near present-day Livingston Road and Saginaw Creek Boulevard to form the so-called “Jensen Ranch” which he used as his cattle ranch until his death in 1942. During World War II, nearby Waterford Township donated land for an airfield which became known as “Key West Air Force Base”; during this time, many residents worked at or lived around Key West Air Force Base including many who later moved to Riverview when it opened its doors to civilians
