Riverview is a town in Escanaba County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,968 at the 2010 census. The name "Riverview" was given to the community by General John Custer during his 1864 campaign against the Creek Nation. At the time of its founding, Riverview had an area of just under one square mile. Today, it has grown to encompass over two square miles and has seen significant growth in recent years due to its location as a crossroads for many local businesses and services. The community is located on the right bank of the White River near its confluence with the Grand Traverse River. It is bordered by Isabella Township on the north, Muskegon Heights Township on the east, and Grand Rapids Township on the south. According to The Village of Riverview website, most of what makes up Riverview today were first developed around 1900 when a railroad station was built there by Northern Illinois Railroad executives Jnoah Pembry and George Hildebrandt. In 1957, Rockford-based Wabash Sugar Company announced plans to move its manufacturing operations from Chicago to Flint after being forced out of that city by Mayor Richard Meehan's anti-trust laws. In response, several hundred people gathered at City Hall in downtown Flint to protest Wabash's proposed relocation; they ultimately disbanded when it emerged that Wabash would not be moving any closer than about 15 miles from their original plant site in Racine County (now Milwaukee). As part of efforts led by then- mayor James Ostrowski (D), General Motors Corporation made a number of investments in riverfront communities throughout Michigan during automaker's 1959/60 automobile industry renaissance across all parts of America including this one small corner town in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula – Racine County – homeport forGM’s now defunct Flushing Plant No 2 which manufactured Buick Cars starting 1914 until GM closed it permanently at bankruptcy in 1970; prior plants included one at Opelika Alabama also closing) Ostrowski also announced development into new riverfront shopping districts along both sides of I-75 known collectively as “The Port Towne Center” anchored by anchor stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Montgomery Ward Co., Kmart Corp., Sam Ash & Sons Sporting Goods Inc., Funk Brothers Clothing Ltd., among others soon followed with construction underway General Motors Corporation ceased production at Flushing Plant No 2 following bankruptcy effective 1970 however assets were sold off and some land used for housing developments such as Forest Hills Gardens which opened in 1976 adjacent to Lake Superior National Park

The town was renamed after General James Wilkinson, commander of American forces during the War of1812. After the war, many residents left Riverview for various reasons including poverty and political unrest in New York City. In 1970, all but 10 ofriver View’s original residents permanently relocated to other parts of Michigan or California. Today, RiverView remains an interesting cultural destination with unique architecture and history that visitors can explore from around the clock!
