Riverview is a small town in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 5,907 at the 2010 census. Riverview is located on the western edge of Grand Traverse County and is bordered by Saginaw to the north, Midland to the east, and Lake Superior to the south. It is part of the Kalamazoo–Wolverine metropolitan area. The town was named after a stream that flows through it. In 1851, Nicholas Soo built a cabin near where today's Riverview Elementary School stands and named his property "River View". The first post office opened in 1853, but from 1865 until 1861, it was called "Saginaw". In 1871, James W. Dudley bought land around present-day Riverview for $4 per acre and changed its name to "Riverview". In 1902, an electric plant was built in nearby Saginaw which made Riverview one of the first towns in Michigan to have electricity. The community continued to receive power from that plant until 1965 when it became an independent municipality with its own government. During World War II, many workers came to Riverview during aluminum production because there were no other places in Michigan available for them to work; some still live here today as descendants of those workers. Afterward, many residents moved away due to changes in technology or other reasons while others kept their homes and continue living here today. Today's river view elementary school serves grades PK-8th grade along with several apartments above ground level used for classrooms and offices during periods between term meetings held inside like nowdays' school yearbook etc... also public library open daily except Tuesday if you can get into building then staff are very nice!

These villages are home to a large number of descendants of those who founded or lived in RiverVIEW back during its early years."

The name of the community derived from its location on the river, which was then called the "Riverside" because it surrounded a large park that served as an important transportation artery. Riverview grew rapidly due to its location on a major trade route and its ability to serve as a hub for local businesses. By 1925, the population of Riverview had reached 6,000. In 1927, Riverview became part of the newly created city of Detroit. However, with the onset of World War II, Riverview continued to grow and become one of the most vibrant communities in metro Detroit. during World War II, many people from Riverview moved to metropolitan Detroit so they could be near their loved ones. In 1945, whenriver view merged intothe new cityof Hamtramckand lost its status as a village/community
