In 1825, a group of men from the town of Riverview in Wayne County, Michigan, began to build a cabin on the east side of the river. The first home in what is now Riverview was built by John Deere and his family. By 1830, three other homes had been erected and it became known as "The Village." In 1831, the village was incorporated as a city. In 1836, it became part of Lansing. In 1861, Lansing merged with Detroit to form the new United States state of Michigan. Riverview continued to exist as a borough until it dissolved in 1932.
Riverview is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids-Milton-Warren Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1851 as a village on the Grand River, east of present-day Midland and west of Ann Arbor. In 1871 it became a town when it amalgamated with other towns in rural southeastern Michigan to form the new Warren County. In 1907 Riverview joined Washtenaw County, then part of Michigan General Assembly District 2. In 1927 it became an independent municipality again when it merged with nearby Kalamazoo Township to form Riverview–Kalamazoo Township Municipality. In 1951 Riverview annexed portions of neighboring Gratiot Township (now Muskegon Heights) to become its own municipality; this annexation led to the name change from "Riverview" to "Gratiot Heights". The township's boundaries have not changed since then and remain unchanged as far as population and government are concerned. As one result of that merger, all but two streets within Gratiot Heights were closed off from traffic by ordinance until Revised Ordinance No. 5 dated December 21, 1996 removed those restrictions effective January 1, 1997 following passage by local voters in a landslide ballot vote approves comprehensive rezoning for all unincorporated areas within Gratiot Heights including riverfront properties now located within Riverview Township which had been annexed into Gratiot Heights beginning in 1951 . According to the 2010 census, there are 1,471 people living in Riverview Township.[1] Of those residents: 812 (57%) identify themselves as white alone or non-Hispanic whites only; 610 (40%) identify themselves as black or African American; 191 (10%) identify themselves as Latino; 24 (3%) identify themselves as Asian/ Pacific Islander; 2 (1% each) self report they are Native American or Alaska Native; and 3 children under 6 years old who reside with their parents report being both native born citizens and citizens of some other country

Riverview is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the Detroit River. The population was 382 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Riverview were Native Americans who hunted and collected game near present-day Belle Isle and Rouge Lake before moving downriver to what is today's Riverview in 1814. In 1827, when Congress created Wayne County, it included all of what are now Delta County, as well as parts of Oakland and Livingston counties which would become Lansing and Flint later that year. In 1835, John Strother founded his paper mill here which became one of the largest paper mills in America until it closed in 1906. Strother also built a wooden jail here from scratch and used it as a jail for local criminals until 1870 when he moved it to opposite downtown Grand Rapids to be closer to the court system (now known as The Statehouse). In 1881, John Davenport founded Davenport & Company here with two partners but soon lost interest in producing paper so he sold his share back to John Strothers' son-in-law Edward Hines Jr., who continued operations until 1907 when it merged with United States Steel Corporation to form United States Steel Corporation Paper Mills Division (USPMD) which continued production until its closure in 1916 due largely to World War I pipe shortages caused by European war munitions suppliers embargoing American exports. The plant produced over 1 million pounds of finished product each week during its heyday including pulpwood for making textiles, insulation for buildings and carriages etc., steel cable wholesale from various producers such as USPMD's ownStretch Conductor Co., wire hanger products made at other facilities around town like Wabash Wire Workshops #1 & 2 next door where they processed wire imported from abroad; among others things this was arguably one of America's most important industrial sites during its time period especially given that much like many other places during these years there were very few job opportunities outside traditional manufacturing jobs due primarily to technological advances promoting efficiency over manual labor/skill development thereby limiting output within traditional industries...Due mainly however to WWI disruptions wrought by export bans on weapons being manufactured by our allies Europe along with increased competition from overseas sources these plants eventually closed unable or unwilling entirely or partially compete against foreign companies with lower prices while still employing vast numbers of workers doing traditional engineering /manufacturing tasks...Thereafter many small businesses took up residence abandoned or damaged factories throughout downtown area filling vacated lots formerly occupied by large plants while some simplyintegrated into new neighborhoods existing adjacent thereto; river view becomingLittle Byred Manor although not without resistance initially given former factory acres once devoted exclusivelyto government housing then rapidly gentrified after prohibition ended several decades later becoming home largelyto professional families living closeby enjoying commuter rail access + easy accesstoquality shopping malls nearby www...A number of alterations have occurred since then including conversionof former Government housing into upscale apartments/condos etc.; however overall impression remains essentially unchanged leading some residentsuflectivelyTO call their city "River View" www...As mentioned earlier much like other American cities during this era though face many challenges having limited job opportunitiesoutside traditional manufacturing employment due largely Due primarily To Technological Advances Promoting Efficiency Over Manual Labor/Skill Development - Limit Output Within Traditional Industries; nevertheless River View has managed successfully albeit somewhat awkwardlyeto remain an extremely active city both economically AND socially through various forms OF marketing efforts including ArtsAndEntertainment activities associated WITH major metropolitan areas across North America&International connections thruout MUCH OF THE WORLD - greatly enhancing Its Global Status
In 1837, the first post office was established on the Riverview. The town of Riverview was organized in 1839 and became a part of Grand Rapids. In 1864, the town merged with the village of Brighton to form the city of Grand Rapids.
