Riverview is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Harrison County, Michigan Area. It is located on the southern edge of the city of Lansing. The population was 1,951 as of the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Riverview was Abram Worthy in 1836. Abram's family had originated from Virginia and were among the earliest land owners in what is now Michigan. Abram's brother David also arrived in Riverview about that time, followed by his wife Hannah and their two children: Anna and Johnathan. Abram's house still stands today within walking distance of most of the businesses and residences in Riverview today. The town name may have been inspiration for its location - just across Muskegon Bay from where Detroit proper begins - though it likely wasn't actually named after any river or streamspecific body of water nearby (the Muskegon and Ottawa Rivers converge near downtown Lansing). Instead, it was simply chosen because it sounded like a community with a "river view." The name stuck until at least 1915 when it was changed to its current spelling following an incorporation referendum held that year. It wasn't until 1892 that railroads arrived in Riverview; immediately thereafter, many businesses opened up along both state trunk lines running through town as well as local lines connecting various villages to larger towns east and west of Lansing. With The Great Western Railway reaching RiverVIEW late enough into the 20th century that passenger service could be offered there regularly (and thus maintain some degree of tourist traffic), Main Street quickly became one of the busiest thoroughfares in town – even hosting live music events during prohibition times! In recent years, however, business closures and lack of new development have begun to take their toll on RiverVIEW's once bustling atmosphere; even post-industrial employment offers few opportunities for locals who want to stay close to their homes basecamp despite experiencing some degree or another connection to Greater Lansing outsideRiverVIEW itself! Despite this reality, there are many residents who continue to call RiverVIEW home – whether they hail from within or without mainlander status! In short, then – while not all residents share CONTINUOUS access to MODERN amenities & services found elsewhere within greater metro Detroit area (!), those living & working here do so WITH THE VIEW.. 😃
