The original model of the Portage PDX1 was designed to be worn around the neck and used as a Spotlight tool to illuminate areas of the crime scene.
PORTAGE, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the county seat of Portage County. The population was 5,854 at the 2010 census. As of 2018, it was estimated that 5,702 people live in the downtown core and 3,521 people live elsewhere within the city limits. The Portage economy is based on transportation and commerce with agricultural products accounting for about one-third of its GDP (2009). The first Europeans to visit what is now Portage County were French settlers who named it for Jean-Baptiste dePorte (1597–1648), Sieur de la Salle's aide-de-camp at Quebec City during the LaFontaine Expedition of 1639–40. DePorte had been captain general of Canada since 1629 and led an attempt to cross the Great Lakes into Superior County in 1638 as part of a military expedition against Iroquois forces under Teochanobo Wyandotte. In 1701 he became owner and proprietor of land at present day Portage Heights on which he built a mansion known as "The Castle" in 1706 using proceeds from his sales in Canada. He also began developing present day downtown area including Battle Creek Road/Clinton Avenue eastward from Fort Wayne's Jackson Landing where he built a millrace to power his home engine brandishing stones from Prospect Hill across Clinton Avenue to market his flour while other passengers watched or took part in races down Prospect Hill; this eventually became known as DePorte Square today! In 1812, when Ottawa granted land east of present day Saginaw Bay to Detroit Township for development as an Indian Reserve, Detroitites donated two lots near what are now Main Street and Third Street between Lake Erie Boulevard (now Woodward) and Saginaw River before relocating their families to what would become Portage Heightsock on these Lots Nos 1 & 2 – soon renamed "Downtown". Portage is a town in Clinton County, Michigan, United States. The population was 707 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1837 by John P. Houghton. The first settler in Portage was William Heiberg, who arrived in 1837. He built a cabin on the east bank of the Kalamazoo River and named it "Houghton." In 1840, Houghton married Ann Greenfield and moved to what is now Portage Township. The couple had two children: Sarah Jane and John Peter Houghton Sr.. In 1842, John Peter Houghton Jr., also known as JonathanHeiberg, came to Portage from Stevensville Township in Upper Canada with his father-in-law David Hackett. Together they erected a log cabin on the north side of the river about three miles west of present day downtown Portage. They called their settlement "Hackett's Landing." In 1843, JonathanHeiberg sold his land to Nicholas Biddle for $10 per acre ($2/acre at that time). Biddle made several improvements to it including building a gristmill and running an inn which he operated until 1865 when it burned down. In 1850, George Wirtz bought 2 acres (0.8 km2) of land adjoining Biddle's inn from him for $50 per acre ($4/acre). Wirtz constructed a sawmill thereon and ran it until 1862 when it caught fire and destroyed most of the buildings inside; however, he continued to operate the mill later that year as a shop engine until 1863 when he sold it to Augustus Rankin for $150 ($6/acre).Rankinoperatedthesawmilluntil1868whenhe died suddenly while trying to turn it over to his son Amos Rankin Jr.. Amos Rankin Jr.'s widow then leased the mill back out to George Washington Snyder for four years before selling it back to Rankin for $225 ($10/acre). On November 30th, 1873, Anthony Jaffe purchased 2 acres (0.8 km2) of land adjoining Rankin's mill from him for $25 per acre (.75 cents/$1 = 25¢).
