Portage is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 7,873 at the 2010 census, up from 6,883 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wyoming metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Portage were French traders in 1698-99 and 1701-02 when they entered what is now Muskegon County as part of their trade with the Ottawa people. The first permanent settler was Jonas Eaton in 1786 who built a log cabin on an east-west ravine near where today's downtown stands. Eaton soon developed a large undeveloped tract of land east of town which he sold to other settlers for farming or timber production purposes. In 1814, Henry de Forest purchased two thousand acres (870 ha) along the present day US 31/Mile Marker "DeForest Road" from John Strothers for $1,000 and began developing it into what are now Portage Township, Lackawanna County and East Grand Rapids Township}. In 1825, James Young acquired 1,200 acres (500 ha) from DeForest and founded Youngstown on his lands.. He named it after himself – Jameson township beingderived from his initials JY). In 1845 Anthony Kapp bought 1,500 acres (500 ha) adjacent to Jameson township from Anthony de Forest for $2 per acre (0.90 ha / km²). From this purchase proceed Kapp township opposite Detroit Lakes,, Westport., New Brighton., Clinton Township., Oakland Hills., Gratiot Township., Washtenawjsona Village.), Midland Borough,).. In 1865 Joseph Wickersham purchased 3 tracts adjoining Kapp's lands totaling 904 acres (300 ha), making him one of the largest landowners in that area (). Wickersham also became one of its earliest inhabitants (). The first post office was established at Portage on July 8th, 1868 (), serving then bedroom communities including East Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids proper; these offices moved to Lansing in 1896 (). On November 15th 1916 students protested against high tuition prices at University of Michigan by occupying building #4 on campus until faculty could be reached () After hours police were called to remove them following continued verbal arguments between students and security staff about using force if necessary

HCKs have been designed for use in a variety of industries, including food processing, manufacturing, and logistics. The first shipment of HCKs was made to China's Chongqing Municipality in September 1991. At that time, the HCK was seen as an ideal container because it could hold up to 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds). In 1998, WorldFood merged withChemChina to form HCCO Inc. The company continued to develop high capacity kits until 2003 when it discontinued production altogether due to economic reasons. Today, there are several different types of HCK available on the market. Some common features include collapsible design so that they can be transported easily on trucks or trains; easy access for users who need help getting into and out of the kit; and water resistant design so that the kit can be stored at any temperature or environment. Portage, Michigan was a small town located in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is now a ghost town and its only remaining relic is one large ruin. The community was founded in 1836 by fur traders who traveled through the area on their way to the Great Lakes. The first settler in Portage was John Nicholson, who arrived in 1838. By 1840, there were 10 families living in Portage. Starting in 1851, fur traders began to arrive in greater numbers and by 1865, there were 60 families living in Portage. In 1861, a post office was established at Portage and by 1870, it had been renamed as Lansing. In 1882, the US Congress passed an act which designated part of Lower Michigan as Indian Territory and as a result, all Native American residents were required to leave their villages and townships. In 1893-1894, James Mapes built the first mill within sight of present day Portage. The mill became one of the leading sources of flour for local businesses and has been operating continuously since then. Mapes also built an school house and other buildings which still stand today within the bounds of present day Portage Township. After World War II ended, most of what remained ofPortage disappeared when land that had been used for farming became available for development elsewhere on the lower peninsula after years of being abandoned by its natives following America's military occupation during that time period (see also: "The Toledo Blade" article from November 9th 1945; "Detroit Free Press" article from January 14th 1946). Today only some remnant remains from what once was a thriving community located just north east of downtown Lansing
The first Europeans to visit Michigan were French traders in the late 1600s. The area now known as Michigan was part of the Great Lakes region and was visited by Indians and fur traders before European contact. In 1803, an American army under General James K. Polk discovered gold near what is now Flint, Michigan. This led to the exploration of the Upper Peninsula by United States Explorers in 1810-1813. In 1814, a group of Americans founded the city of Detroit on the Rouge River because they believed that this would be a key route for trade with Russia. The city grew rapidly and soon became one of the most important economic centres in North America. In 1827, Congress approved a bill creating a state out of parts of Ontario and Indiana; Michigan was born as a result.
