In 1812 John Butterfield set out from New York City with his brother Samuel Butterfield Jr., father David Butterfield and others to explore North America overland via Siberia and recommend Rapids Landing on river's end opposite present day Toledo, Ohio as a crossing point for mail cars traveling downriver between Detroit and Chicagovia Buffalo Forts Niagara Falls then upriver past Milwaukee before reaching Kingston, Ontario near Toronto proper In 1815 Henry Dearborn founded Dearborn Heights on Second Street near today's State Capitol building while he still lived in New York City; this became Dearborn Heights Township in 1827 when all but three blocks inside New York City were annexed by Port Huron limits forming what is now Holland Township within Ottawa County The townspeople petitioned for township status because they wanted more control over their affairs than they enjoyed under New York City law including paramount rights to build wharves or dry docks for shipping vessels belonging to themselves or others outside their own township . On July 1st 1830 this request was granted . . . With an area larger than any other municipality ever created within United States territory (including Los Angeles), steamboats became very important in transporting goods downriver from Great Lakes ports such as Toledo etc., through Ionia River then across Georgian Bayou into Lower Canada

Port Huron, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the county seat of Eaton County. The population was 95,569 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Eaton County and fourth-largest city in Michigan behind Detroit, Lansing, and Yorkville. Port Huron is also one of several former bypass towns that are now incorporated into nearby villages or cities. The first permanent European settler in what is now Port Huron was Nicholas Moroski from Russia who arrived on October 15, 1817 with his family. He founded a fur trading post on land he purchased from the Native Americans at the mouth of Muskegon River. At first it was called "Ruskin." In 1828 Moroski sold his holdings to John Drysdale for $4,000 cash. Drysdale renamed it "Port Huron" after Captain James Cook's ship HMS Discovery which had anchored off the shore during his final voyage around Cape Horn in 1795-96 Official Gazetteer of Michigan Volume VII page 526 (1890). The first post office opened at "Ruskin" on November 1st, 1829 under name of "Eaton". In 1840 Isaac Sawyer established a ferry service across the Straits of Mackinac between White Sulphur Springs and Marquette Heights serving as both passenger and freight carrier until 1861 when he became bankrupt because of bad debts incurred while transporting goods across Lake Superior by steamboats From then on Erie Railroad served as both passenger transportation provider through its line running downriver from Grand Rapids to Port Huron as well as freight carrier bringing goods upriver past Holland Landing to be unloaded at the mills located along lower Eel River near present day North Muskegon Heights before being transported back downstream to Grand Rapids for storage before shipment again to other parts of United States The port town began expanding rapidly due to demand from farmers shipping produce upriver for delivery directly to consumers during their summer corn crop seasons followed by demand for ice cream during winter months leading to another entrepreneur starting a grocery store within two years characterized today by many structures remaining standing still dating back over 100 years including an original turnpike road built by EIRA which crossed Anoka Creek just north of town center By 1880 there were ten business establishments total with manufacturing facilities including three breweries (Cascade Brewery Company; Smith’s Brewery; Dunham & Wetherbee Brewery) five tanneries (Walden Manufacturing Company; Phelps & Phelps Tannery; Hubbard Brothers Tannery; American Tannery), four clothing stores (Mallick’s Stores Inc.; Haggerty’s Clothing Store; Mapes & Hawley Clothing Store), two druggists (Flamm & Flamm Druggist); one feed store (John Fenton Feeding House); six automobile dealerships including: Curtiss Motors Incorporated;; Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., Chevrolet Automobiles Inc., Chrysler Corporation;; Dodge Powertrain Corporation;; Packard Motor Carriage Works Ltd.; Plymouth Motors Corporation;; Stevens Bros./Fulton Machine Shop On Main Street) A new bridge replaced an old wooden structure crossing Anoka Creek just north of town center completing construction on May 6th 1881 named after George Washington Cullum who donated $1,000 towards its erection . It was officially dedicated on July 3rd 1881 . A new fire station was also constructed next door replacing an earlier building which failed due to lack thereof . During World War I various industries closed their doors throughout much OF central US because production would not meet demands resulting in unemployment among war workers local governments borrowed money advanced against future earnings resulting in citizens becoming unenlightened about how government functioned leading eventually culminating with Socialism taking over .....and City Hall burned down ...... leaving only some ruins remain today

Port Huron is a city in Michigan, United States. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Washtenaw County. The first permanent settler in what is now Port Huron was Nicholas de Grasse, who emigrated from France in 1795 and named his new town after himself and his ship, the "Narcisse". The first post office was organized in 1802. In 1807, John Fenton established a ferry service across the Straits of Mackinac between Detroit and Marquette. In 1809, Michigan became a U.S. state and Port Huron became its capital. In 1814, Commodore David Dixon founded the steamboat company that would become Detroit Boat Company. In 1830, he donated land to build an Protestant Episcopal church on Clark Street near downtown Port Huron which remains today as the City Church of Sts Peter and Paul (now known as First Presbyterian). In 1840, James Cohan set up a tannery on Porter Street just east of downtown Port Huron which produced leather for shoes and coats until 1865 when it closed down due to neglect by management; it reopened under new ownership in 1984 but closed again in 1990 due to lack of funding.. The first railroad through Port Huron was built in1849 by the Grand Trunk Railway; it connected Detroit with Chicago via Hollandia Terminal before being extended east to Toledo in 1850. In 1870–71-72-73-74-75-76 – Harbor Line Railroad Extension constructed a line from port to open up local seafood resources including oysters Rockefeller Pointe Shores (later Allentown) Atwater State Park via Saginaw Bayou
