The state of Michigan was among the first to legalize gun ownership in the United States. On November 8, 1868, a group of citizens from Port Huron petitioned the Michigan Legislature to allow carrying pistols and shotguns without a license. The measure passed on December 3 and became law. Port Huron continued to be an important center for firearms trade until after World War II. Ammunition production increased during that time as well, resulting in some destruction of old stock and the creation of new demand for older types of ammunition.
Port Huron, Michigan is a city on the Georgian Bay River in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 54,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area and is one of the most populous cities in North America. In 1809, it became a port town on the lower end of what is now Erie Canal because fur traders could not reach Superior from other parts of Upper Michigan Territory. The first settlers arrived in 1800, when George Aitken and his family built their log cabin just south of where Port Huron now stands on land that they had purchased from Wabash Indian Chief Joseph Kappevious. John Fenton also settled there in 1802, followed by Isaac Nitschke in 1805 and Philip Pohl in 1807-08. By 1830, all but two families living there had departed for other parts of Upper Michigan Territory; Kappevious's remaining followers remained until 1840 when they ceded their land to the United States government for use as a military reservation known as Fort Mackinac or "Mackinac Island." In 1824, Augustus Woodward founded Woodward & Company trading post near present-day downtown Port Huron with stores and warehouses along both sides of Front Street between Canfield Avenue and Third Street NW; this was further developed into what is today Woodward Brewery corporate headquarters building (renovated 2003). During this time period trade winds began picking up steam coming downriver; so much so that President James Kossuth called a meeting of Congress to urge them to authorize an appropriation for new canals to be built to carry cargo downriver instead of relying on sailing vessels which were then becoming increasingly unreliable due to bad weather conditions at sea or rough seas during navigation inland. During this time period immigration rates also increased as people realized that opportunities were available here more than any place else on earth—this included many Jews who had come overland from Belarus before the American Revolution started (they would later establish New York City's first synagogue). One such person was Moses Montefiore who arrived here around 1827 and soon established himself as one of the largest landowners in town with holdings including several tracts along Front Street between Canfield Avenue NW and Third Street NW totaling some . He would continue acquiring more acreage until his death in 1860 leaving behind extensive holdings which span across both northward side Streets NW and southward side streets east/west across First Street NE between Grand Rapids Boulevard NE and Ionia Road NE - making him one of earliest large landholders within boundaries defined by modern day Port Huron limits (dating back to 1795). During this time period various groups formed within local communities with influence extending far beyond their own boundaries: The Masons led by Solomon Stiles organized township meetings while religious denominations like Methodists led by James Cook met frequently at Masonic lodges throughout town while farmers formed coalitions againstspeculative speculators known as "the white men." Political parties emerged during these times including those advocating populist policies like prohibitionism while others advocated more enlightened economic policies like free trade which eventually led to America's entry into World War II upon learning about Germany's secret weapons program - thus beginning America's longest war ever fought

Port Huron is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Huron County. The population was 54,685 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Michigan after Detroit. It is also one of the most populous cities in Canada with a population of over 100,000 residents. The first human settlement on what is now Port Huron was made by Seneca Indians in 1795 when they established a trading post on Horseshoe Lake. A small town called Green Bay was founded near present-day downtown Port Huron by early Methodists in 1824. The first store opened in 1827 and soon became an important center for trade with other Upper Peninsula communities such as Kalamazoo and Sault Ste Marie. By 1830, merchants from Jackson Township had built a gristmill on Sandusky Bay that processed white flour for local markets and exported to distant countries including England, Ireland, Denmark and Sweden. In 1831, lumber dealers from Jackson Township started selling logs to settlers who were building houses on the peninsula opposite present-day downtown Port Huron along the riverfrontage known as Point White Beach. In 1836, Daniel Webster became speaker of the United States House of Representatives after winning election as an anti-slavery candidate over Whig opponent John Quincy Adams Sr.. One year later Webster ordered Ulysses S Grant to build Fort Dearborn to protect American settlers against Native American attacks; however this order never went into effect because Grant died before its completion in 1840. During World War II, General Dwight Eisenhower's forces landed at Normandy beachhead on D-Day while under heavy fire from German artillery positions across water obstacles separating Omaha beach from Gold Beach; approximately 1 million Allied soldiers were killed or wounded during Operation Overlord which ended with German surrender following day's fighting After World War II endedport huron experienced rapid growth due to auto manufacturing and highway construction boom associated with post-war suburbanization practices throughout much of Michigan As recently as 1990 almost all jobs within 10 miles (16 km) of downtown were factory or service jobs; today only about 2/5th are still located there Downtown redevelopment has resulted in many new businesses being opened up around main streets such as Third Street NW & Main Street SE but some longterm effects have been negative such as increased traffic congestion caused by increasing development around major thoroughfares

The fort was used as a base for military operations in the region and also served as a shelter for American traders and settlers. In 1827, the US decided to move its capital from New York City to Washington D.C., and Fort Huron became one of the first locations in America to be moved. It was renamed Washington NationalGuard Arsenal in 1889 after President Cleveland awarded it to the nation. In 1933, during World War II, Fort Huron played a significant role in helping Allied forces defeat Nazi Germany. After World War II,Fort Huron declined in popularity as an arms factory until it was revived as a cultural center in the 1990s.
