In 2003, General Motors announced that it would close their main plant in Flint and ship all production to Pontiac from there beginning in 2004. Pontiac's history goes back to 1892 when Woodward Avenue became an racetrack which allowed drivers to experience high speeds and excitement while they were still young. One of the most famous events happened on July 4th, 1903 when automotive superstar Harley-Davidson came to town for its first ever roadrace at Midland Park Raceway with their new Dragster models! This event was so successful that Harley decided to come back every year until they disbanded in 1936! It wasn't until 1957 when Cadillac debuted their revolutionary new Eldorado model that Pontiac truly began its illustrious Motor Racing legacy! From then until today no other manufacturer has come close to replication of this legendary brand name! And even though many big names have left our community over time (Honda being one example), we continue to keep alive our motorsports culture through our annual street races/motorsport shows/ranchos/etc...
