Pontiac was a small town in Michigan until the early 1800s when it became one of the most important transportation and commercial centers in the state. In 1795, after France ceded Detroit to Great Britain, British colonists began purchasing land north of present-day Pontiac. One hundred acres were purchased by John Pocklington and his brother Thomas Pocklington in 1796. The brothers named their new village Pontiac after General James Wolfe's army defeated French forces at Quebec City on July 4, 1759 (the Battle of Quebec). This event helped strengthen British control over Canada and inspired many American colonists to migrate southward to join the war effort against France. In 1806, Joseph White established himself as a merchant in what is now downtown Pontiac with his business partner Amos Kendall Jr.. The two men soon reinvested their profits into additional businesses including one that produced cider from apples grown on nearby farms not far from downtown: White Cider & Vineyards (later renamed United States appellation). White sold cider direct to consumers while Kendall distributed wine under several different brand names including Kendall’s Irish Cream and Old Dominion exchange wines (now part of Tullamore Dew). In 1814, White married Catherine Butler who bore him four children: Josephine (1815–1892), Amos Kendall Sr., John Quincy Adams III (1817–1901), and Charlotte Harrison William Mason Woolridge(1819–1900). The Whites eventually sold United States appellations assets including White Cider & Vineyards to Wm Fenton in 1865 for $5 million dollars ($105 million today) – making it one of America’s largest bottle companies at that time! After Dearborn County was formed from portions of Upper Michigan during Act 3 Of Statehood on February 14th 1832,[1] much interest occurred within Territorial Government Headquarters located atwhat is now Broadview Heights due largely to reports emanating from Dickinson County about potential gold prospects discovered near Saginaw Creek adjacent to present day Southfield Township bordering Onaway County Though no specific claims were made regarding these discoveries until later - officials quickly dispatched an expedition led by Captain Lewis Cass[2] under Lieutenant Colonel George Simpson consisting primarily of experienced miners prospectors specifically directed towards finding gold along Saginaw Creek bedding between Onaway Township line running eastwest just north thereof approximating 10 rods or so being 500 lbs nominal proven amount - results accomplished notwithstanding lack access thereto further confirmatinigs pertinent thereto should be secured; upon return trip various items viz warrants etc found - reliable Notice having been given accordingly commanding party proceeded thenceforth unopposed unmolested thro' said creek bedding continued goldmining operations thereby furnishing valuable information leading directly thereto [3]. Upon realization this auspicious occurrence Major Cass immediately ordered an immediate exploration party composed principally gentlemen Messrs Davenport Bros.[4] organized pursuant aforesaid order marched forthwith armed with pickaxes commenced digging abandoned mines approximately 25 rods below surface ascertaining more than 20 bushel weight real gold coins &c lately lying therein Gave notice thereof unto those properly interested being duly notified; work stopped thereupon without loss or casualty caused either mine nor discovery but genuine excitement ensued resulting finally in location hereof whereupon all proper measures were taken for securing possession thereby giving rise incidentally to our modern name." Although not naming any individual responsible for this initial success - Captain Lewis Cass remains generally recognized as its founder - this event marks perhaps the earliest official recognition given both localities currently residing within Onaway County bordersadas developing into today's city/town status undeveloped mineral resources

Pontiac is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Harrison County area of Michigan, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. Pontiac was founded in 1867 by General James K. Polk and his wife Julia Child as a wagon manufacturing town on the east side of the mouth of Muskegon River. The town was named after General John Pountney, who fought in the American Revolution under George Washington and led an expedition against Lake Superior in 1795. After becoming engaged to Julia Child, General Polk renamed Pontiac "Michigan City" in her honor on November 26, 1875. The first store opened in 1867 and became one of the most successful businesses in Pontiac until it closed its doors in 1961 due to economic difficulties caused by low demand forwagon parts from other manufacturers during World War II and subsequent shortages of war materials. In its heyday, Pontiac had a population of over 10,000 people and produced more than 100 automotive products including cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles. A new motor assembly plant was built in Highland Park between 1951 and 1953 which helped revive Pontiac's economy; however this factory also led to pollution problems that prompted federal intervention beginning with the Monroe Doctrine hearings before Congress which ended Ulysses S Grant's presidency effective January 20th 1865; following this event many companies began moving their operations out of America because of President Abraham Lincoln's Executive Order 10962 that banned discrimination against immigrants based on national origin or race within any company with $1 million or more in annual sales activity). In 1976 local politician Bob Cook became mayor after winning election while running as an independent candidate despite having no previous public service experience; Cook furthered Pontiac’s growth by initiating several high-profile projects such as building a new city hall (now known as The Palace) followed by developing downtown into a vibrant community center complete with amateur theatrical productions through private donors/investors/promoters culminating with construction of what is now known as "The Homer Building" which housed both municipal offices (city clerk’s office & recorder’s office) as well as two high- school basketball teams volleyball courts & numerous shopping malls development including: Harbor Freight Center (now home to Graco), Eastern Market Place & A&P Supermarket Plaza; all while successfully engaging with neighboring communities such as Port Huron & Clinton Township for additional commercial opportunities resulting in increased traffic volumes onto I-94 totaling more than 1 million passengers annually adjacent to nearly 2 dozen light industrial districts - collectively makingPontiac one of America's "NoFlyZones." 0nwardly another major project initiated by Mayor Cook during his time would result beingthe developmentofthe MotorCity Casino Resort which would become oneofthelargestcasinosintheUSandoneofthelargestinCanada entailing investmentofmorethan$2billionitselfannually creating thousandsof jobs across multiple sectors while hosting over 150 events annually including professional sports games (e.g., NFL Sunday Ticket games featuring Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers) live music concerts headlined by world famous artists like Michael Jackson®, Garth Brooks®, Usher® etc.; casino gaming venues featuring Atlantic City properties such as Harrah's Casino Resort New Jersey along with various types offorwards entertainment options such as movie theaters ( AMC theater chain), water parks ( Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park), golf courses (& two brand new ones opening this year - Kingswood Country Club near Lansingmi[...]
