Owosso, Michigan is a small city in the lower Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cass County. The economy of Owosso is based primarily on agriculture and services. The first European sighting in what becomes Owosso Township was by Capt. John Marshall during his 1769 exploration of Upper Peninsula country when he sighted an Indian village on the Muskegon River about east of present-day Owosso. In 1814, while making a reconnaissance trip upriver from Sault Ste Marie, Mich., United States Colored Troops under Major George Armstrong Custer discovered a group of Osage Indians living near the mouth of the Big Sandy River south-southeast of Owosso. In 1825, Thomas Burt founded a fur business in what became known as "Burt's Landing." A post office called "Owosa" was established there in 1827; it remained in operation until 1902. In 1837, George Stephenson built the first steamboat on the Great Lakes and brought passengers and cargo to Oscoda for transport to points north and west via Oscoda Harbor on Lake Superior; Owosso functioned as one point on this route until it was discontinued in 1959 because transportation methods had changed so much since then. The first town formation here took place November 1, 1838 when four men from Okemos petitioned for incorporation as "New Town". They were granted their charter by Judge Solomon Baldwin on December 6th following a hearing that took place at New Town Hall which also served as courthouse for Cass County at that time; all land within present-day Cass County boundaries had been surveyed and purchased by early settlers prior to its incorporation into this new township. The original town plat included unincorporated territory lying northwest of present day Woodward Avenue between East Huron Street (now M-12) and South Main Street (now US 12), all now part of city limits; most notably these areas are now known as North Park Square and South Park Square along Woodward Avenue between East Lansing Boulevard (now I-94) and North Park Drive (now US 12). There were no buildings constructed within those boundaries until after 1830 when residences began being erected along Woodward Avenue between East Lansing Boulevard (now I-94) and North Park Drive just outside today's City Limits perimeter - see picture below: On October 14th 1840, James Kapp organized what would become known asthe Kapp brothers Midland Glass Factory located just northwest cornerOf present day Woodward Ave & Elmhurst Dr NW

Owosso is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Owosso County. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Owosso Township was John Addison, who arrived in 1816 from Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Addison named his township after him, adding "oss" to his name to indicate that it was a place where owls could be found. In 1827, Wm. J. Hays founded a gristmill on the eastern edge of what is now Owosso Township, which became one of the largest mills in Michigan and soon produced flour for local consumers as well as export to other states. In 1839, David Ransom established a blacksmith shop in what are now Superior and Oakland townships east of present-day Owosso Township for helping farmers with their tools and armor necessary for self-defense during the 1840skeye Indian War (1838-1841). A group of settlers called themselves The White Men's Settlement Company and purchased land near present-day Lansingburgh Dam on Shiawassee River opposite Lansingburgh just north of present day Ottawa County line for development into an agricultural community called Grosse Pointe Farms or white settlement; this so named village would be abandoned by 1830 when navigation improved significantly making access to Lake Huron easier than previously possible due to construction work on Washtenaw Canal nearby; however remnants can still be seen today around milepost 9 on Dearborn Road (now US Route 10) leading south from Ionia Park off State Highway 62). In 1849, George Stephenson openedenveloping what are now parts of Oakland and Superior Townships with an ambition to create a central business district across all southern Wayne County; Stephenson's plan failed because he did not have money to build such things as roads or public buildings; however Nicholson's successful proposal did receive funding allowing him develop Woodward Avenue between downtown Detroit and Highland Park into one continuous commercial district including warehouses, stores, restaurants etc.; this avenue would remain important until its closure following World War II due primarily to its proximity to munitions plants throughout southeastern Michigan In 1862 when Territorial Governor James Kapp awarded land within present day Macomb County along both sides of Six Mile Creek for development into farmland known as Kapp Ranch – later renamed Wolverine National Forest – those living within boundaries east/northwest of Six Mile Creek were granted homestead privileges under Ladd Act No 2644; these tracts included much territory surrounding present day Owosso Township . A post office was established at Owosso in 1865 ; it remained operational until 1893 . Oftentimes there were many speculators involved in early economic activities such as farming which led directly or indirectly to industry later becoming prevalent in town like publishing houses printing newspapers etc., lumberyards manufacturing plank furniture etc., Despite being small town operations they managed nonetheless and continue doing so up until our current time
