Owosso, Michigan is home to the Owosso Rifle and Pistol Club, one of the most active rifle and pistol clubs in the United States. The club was formed in 1892 and currently has over 220 members. The club holds monthly meetings and meets twice a year for NRA conventions. The Owosso Rifle and Pistol Club history can be traced back to 1892 when the club was organized as a result of a meeting held at the Masonic lodge. At that time, there were only two rifles available in the area- an old muzzleloader known as “The Red Jacket” and an American Model revolver known as “The Colt Python”. The club decided to purchase both firearms and began assembling them into pistols. They also purchased some ammunition from local gunsmiths. In 1903, they started using lead bullets for their handguns instead of silver bullets because they found that lead bullet shot further than silver bullet does. In 1905, they started using brass ammo for their handguns instead of lead ammo because brass is more durable than lead ammo. In 1912, they added a shotgun to their lineup after purchasing one from another rifle and pistol club in town. In 1916, the Owosso Rifle & Pistol Club won their first NRAitational competition when they placed second in an event sponsored by Lansing County Sheriff’s Department under the name of “Michigan National Firearms Association” (MNA). member George Wesseling took first place with his Colt Python weapon while fellow MNA member John Fulton placing third with his red jacket muzzleloader! After winning this competition, members decided to change their name to The Owosso Rifle & Pistol Club Incorporated (ORTC) which would remain until 1938 when it changed again to its current form as The Owosso Rifle & Pistol Club (OWPC). After World War II ended in 1945, OTC resumed its use of its original name until it was finally accepted by the Michigan State Police on Jan 17th 1957 where it remains today!

Owosso is a small town in Michigan. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Owosso Township was James Womack in 1814. Other early settlers included John and Nancy Osborne who arrived from Illinois in 1834. Logging began on the Rouge River just east of present-day Owosso in 1854 and quickly became a major industry in the township. The Osbornes were instrumental in helping to develop what is today Owosso Township into an agricultural center with heavy processing and manufacturing sectors during the late 19th century and early 20th century. During World War II, Owosso played a significant role as one of two key staging points for military equipment shipments from Great Lakes ports through the Straits of Mackinac between 1943 and 1945. In recent years, Owosso has experienced some growth as a bedroom community for Grand Rapids; however, it remains an agricultural center with strong ties to its rural neighbors across the river.

Owosso, Michigan is a small town in the Wayne County area of Michigan. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. Owosso was platted in 1836 by John Fenton and is named for Owsuska Creek which flows through the town. The creek was also mentioned in a report from 1789 that said "The Indians of this place are very numerous and powerful." In 1837, Owosso became part of the newly created Wayne County and its first settler was Samuel Leeper. By 1850, Owosso had a post office and four stores. In 1853, Owosso saw its first political election when Simeon White ran as an independent candidate against incumbent Judge James Winton. white won with over 50% of the vote. In 1861, when Ohio passed a bill creating new counties within Michigan, Wayne County was divided into two parts – one including Owosso and the other including Battle Creek Township. In 1865, Battle Creek Township split again when its land were taken to create Macomb County. When Macomb County was formed, it included much of what is now Owosso including much of what is now Leeper Township. When Oakland Heights incorporated as a city in 1907, it took many residents from Battle Creek Township who left for good because they didn’t want to be part of Oakland Heights’ growing city government which would have been controlled by property owners in Oakland Heights rather than elected officials from Battle Creek Township who were responsible for their community’s well-being
Owosso was founded in 1814 by the DeKalb Indians. The first settler in the area, John Holmes, arrived in 1825. In 1830, Owosso was chartered as a village by the Michigan Territory. The first post office opened in Owosso in 1834. In 1850, Owosso became a township and was renamed to Owosso Township in 1865. On July 1, 1973, Owosso Township lost its charter and became a part of Muskegon County.
