The first settlements in what is now Owosso were made by fur traders working for George Fox during his missionary work in this region in 1795-97: James Fenton found land on Beaver Creek in 1802 and John Armstrong platted a town near its mouth on May 25, 1803 called "Owatonna". A post office was established at Owosso on December 15, 1811 under assumed name "Wolverine", but it reverted to its original name after December 1, 1812 when Buffalo Bayou became too wide for wagon travel between that city and Owosso via beaver crossing thus terminating trade with Wolverine Township.. In 1865–66 settlers from Saginaw moved into their new community following construction of a new railroad line from Lansing to US-31/Muskegon County Line through Saginaw Township. In 1890s there were proposals for developing what is now downtown Owosso around Granite Street which would have been followed by further development along Woodward Avenue towards Saginaw Charter High School which opened in fall 1998 adjacent to gas station originally built back when local residents drove around town using gasoline available only from that station until it closed in early 2017; also included within that proposal was redevelopment off Woodward near Midtown Plaza shopping center although never completed because various financial missteps led developers to sell all or most shareholdings prior to bankruptcy filed in late 2018 leaving those properties vacant since then Some current activities taking place within or adjacent to downtownOWOSSO include several annual festivals such as Oktoberfest Downtown each year held over multiple days beginning Friday evening preceding event starting Saturday morning generally ending Sunday night or early Monday morning depending upon weather conditions; characteristically one or more large live concerts/fairs taking place throughout entire weekend typically featuring top touring artists performing both before & after events especially during later weeks leading up culminating with either national finals week celebration being held outdoors Clawson Park approximately ½ day prior starting Thursday evening culminating with actual school Fed Ex truckloads full parade costumes for students entering school on Friday) while other smaller occasional activities include monthly art show open house featuring local artists located inside Gonzaga Center mall although exterior walls recently been painted mainly shades of light green & blue Recent additions thereto include two small parks – one known locally as "The Woods" located off State Road 12 just southeast of Main Streets intersection nearest largest park described above while smaller park known as "Lakeview" located southwest corner State Road 10E just northwest opposite Walmart

Owosso is a small city in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Washtenaw County. The area that now comprises Owosso was part of the Upper Peninsula until it was ceded to Michigan in 1837. The first permanent settler in what is now Owosso was James Nance, who arrived around 1795 and built a cabin on the banks of the Ottawa River. By 1800, he had several other cabins and two mills located near present-day Second Avenue and M-10 highway. In 1802, Nance married Martha Thomson and together they founded Thomson Township on land donated by John Thomson Sr.. Thomson Township developed into Owosso after being platted in 1834 by Augustus Burt. The town became a post office in 1836 and an incorporated village in 1840 when rifleman General George Armstrong Custer moved his headquarters from Fenton to Owosso for its strategic position atop hills overlooking Detroit. Afterward, residents began referring to their current community as "Owosso". In 1861, Owosso became part of Washtenaw County when it was organized from parts of Wayne County. As one of the largest towns within county boundaries at that time, Owosso rapidly grew with new construction projects such as an opera house (1866), library (1872), hospital (1901), telephone exchange (1920), railroad station (1927), courthouse (1929) and jail (1930). During World War II, Owosa joined many other rural communities throughout Michigan in support of military production; during this time much commercial development took place including a car dealership/repair shop(1945) and industrial park(1950). In recent years there has been significant growth back within the city limits which has led to increased traffic congestion on main routes as well as challenges with water conservation which have seen some streets closed during extreme weather conditions like rainstorms or snowflakes

The Owosso Manufacturing Company was founded in 1849, and manufacturing began to dominate the local economy. In 1915, Owosso received its first electric light bulb. The Owosso Electric Light Company was purchased by the Detroit Edison Company in 1922. In 1930, the company became part of United States Steel Corporation. In 1938, United States Steel acquired Michigan Tool Works, which made tools and other heavy equipment. During World War II, Owosso produced munitions for the war effort. After the war ended, owosSO returned to a primarily agricultural economy until it became an incorporated city in 1957.
