Owosso is a city in the parish of Ottawa in the Mitten County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,055 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1834 by James Fenton and moved to its current location in 1847. Owosso is named for an Indian word meaning "place where corn is grown." The first settler in what would become Owosso was James Fenton. In 1834 he and his family came from Ireland with hopes of finding a fertile farmstead to live on near Traverse City. They arrived at the mouth of the Ottawas River and built a small cabin which they named Fenton's Ford after their leader, James Fenton, who had been instrumental in helping them find their way west. In 1847, when Michigan became a state, Owosso voted to join it and soon thereafter began growing rapidly due to its proximity to Detroit and other major cities. By 1870 Owosso had over 2,000 residents and developed into one of the largest townships in Michigan. During World War II Owosso contributed heavily to supplying munitions that were used against Nazi Germany. One particular nearby airfield played an important role during this time as it functioned as both an bomber ground station and storage area for planes brought back by USAAF units returning homeafter operations over Europe or Japan (such as the Doolittle Raid). Formalized incorporation occurred on December 8th 1907 with 1004 voters present; Mayor Hiram Halsey being elected Chairman/First Vice President with Aldermen John Sweeny (2nd Ward), Alanson Hixon (3rd Ward), Amos Neely (4th Ward) also voting members; This made Owaso Township one of seven rural districts formed within Washtenaw County following passage by General Assembly legislation entitled "An Act To Consolidate Two Townships into One" on November 15th 1906 effective January 1st 1907; This act provided for county consolidation which resulted in both Ottawa Township & Owaso Township becoming part of Mitten County according to law while Washtenaw County continued unchanged with only its two rural districts forming within it under new government structure including those now comprising Mitten County - Ottawa Township & Owaso Township . On May 4th 1938 Chauncey Copley donated land east of town limits along I-96 between Tudor Road & State Highway 231 for future use as a parkland development known as "Chauncey Park". On July 10th 1939 construction began on what would eventually be called “Copley Lake” located adjacent to Chauncey Park off I-96 just north of town limits; this project included bringing water from White Lake via pipelines across Otter Tail Road & upriver until it reached Chauncey Park approximately 3 miles downstream from original site

Owosso is an unincorporated community in the U.S. state of Michigan, located southeast of Saginaw on the Owosso River. The community was formerly a part of Saginaw Township and is now a census-designated place (CDP). As of the 2010 census, its population was 309. What makes Owosso special? The Owosso area started out as swampy land that drained into the Muskegon River during periods of drought. Over time, farmers cleared and cultivated the land, creating what is today an agricultural town with a diverse landscape including rolling hills and riverside homes perched atop blufftops. In 1836, when Michigan became a state, it added Owosso to Saginaw Township; however, local officials continued to use their own name for what is now known as Owosso CDP because they felt it would be more memorable to residents than having their township renamed after another county in Michigan. In 1881, when most of southern Wayne County was annexed by Detroit as part of that city's growth, Saginaw Township lost all but 1 square mile (2 km²) west of the river to Detroit; however, much like other towns withinDetroit limits, Orosco continued to exist largely unscathed due to its remote location and lack of infrastructure development until after World War II when Interstate 96 was built through the town center pushing people away from it for fear that they would lose access to jobs in nearby houses built near I-96. Today Orosco remains largely rural with small businesses lining main streets and few services available on its outskirts where there are also several churches and schools serving mostly local populations within a radius around Wright Road Elementary School which opened in 1978 and contains multi-purpose hallways extending throughout both levels making it one large gymnasium/academic complex with classrooms spread evenly across both levels that seats over 300 students inside/outside auditoriums adjacent to fields used for agriculture/recreational activities
Owosso was founded in 1848, and is the oldest town in the county. It is located on the mouth of the Grand River, which forms the eastern border of Owosso County. The community was named for John Owosso, a United States Representative from Michigan.
