Owosso is a small town in the eastern part of Michigan, United States. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan and had a population of just over 1,000 people at the 2000 census. The town has been inhabited since at least the 18th century and first appear in records in 1792. Gun hammers were used by early settlers to hammer nails into logs for their homes or barns. As early as 1812 Native Americans knew about this place because Point du Lac lay just north of where Marquette landed; however no settlements were established until after white men arrived seeking trade goods with fur trading posts up Lake Superior.. In 1827 Captain George Stephenson founded Detroit which became an important center for fur trade operations on both sides of the border with Canada . At that time there were several companies conducting business along both shores including The Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) which operated outposts at Mackinac Island () between Georgian Bay and Port Huron (); The Ottawa Company () on Georgian Bay opposite Sault Ste Marie (); The Peace River Company (), also called The Northern Department (), consisting mostly of Miamis who lived along Rice Creek (); And finally The Chicago Pequot Indians (). In 1830 HBC organized its own company under royal charter entitled “The Royal Canadian Mounted Police” (RCMP) which became responsible for all aspects relating to Aboriginal peoples within Canadan borders including hunting, fishing, trapping etc., subject only to Crown Regulations governing military activities within Canadan territory outside Aboriginal reservations jurisdiction In response to public outcry over reports OF aboriginal violence against whites colonists residing within British Columbia (northwest corner), Montreal privateer Jacques Cartier sailed downriver from Fort Vancouver Harbour on October 15th ,1795 enroute from Montreal via Niagara Falls aux Cheveux et de la Jonchere(),presentday Thunder Bay,,to explore new land westward beyond what is today Manitoba . The city name has been changed several times since then (most recently to Oshtemo on July 1st, 2013).[19] City officials contend that they have never given up their insistence that they be known as "Owoso" even though most people living there call themselves "Oshtemo".[20][21]:1024 On October 3rd 2014,[22]:27 both cities merged into one consolidated municipality under name "Emmonsville".[23]:269 That municipality ceased operations on December 15th 2017 due to declines in population and other reasons
