Owosso is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census, up from 8,835 at the 2000 census and 7,912 at the 1990 census. The city is located in Muskegon County on the southern border of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Owosso was founded in 1837 by John Haggerty as a small community near what is now Midland City. In 1881 Owosso became part of Battle Creek Township, and in 1907 it became a separate city. Owosso's history can be traced back to 1837 when John Haggerty set out from his farmstead south of Battle Creek with his wife Ann and four children to find new land for their family. They first journeyed overland to Grayling and then took an Indian trail through Baraga County before finally arriving in what is now Owosso on October 12 of that year. At that time, only seven families lived within one mile (1 km) of each other on farms along the Ottawa River which forms Battle Creek Township today. Over time many more people moved into this area including farmers and lumberjacks who settling down after buying orchards, ranches and forests along the Ottawa River floodplain during droughts caused by Huron glaciation about 10,000 years ago One hundred months later on December 15th1881 John Haggerty laid claim to 1/6th of current-day Muskegon County from George Stephenson for $100; this included all present day Owosso Township as well as east half of Battle Creek Township which would form future East Lansing Municipal Borough two decades later When General Motors purchased Cadillac Land Company in 1923 they transferred control over much of Muskegon County including most eastern half of Muskegon County including Owosso Township lying within their lands; however they retain title to property westward extending into Mio Township until recently In 1927 GM sold much remaining interest in Cadillac Land Company including parts or all east side lot line extending northward into Mio township also known as Maple Pointe Estate lots totaling 6 acres having been rented since 1924 by Mrs Gertrude Engelbrecht who had arrived from Holland some years earlier with her husband Abram Engelbrecht Jr.; after her death in 1951 her executor reacquired these Lots approximately 350 feet eastward off US 31 just outside town limits between Maple Pointe Road & US 131 where he built his home until its sale several years ago . It should be noted that any buildings constructed prior thereto are still extant providing evidence that there were once substantial numbers settlement close enough physically/culturally for human habitation even if not currently residing nearby

Owosso is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1847 by George H. Owosso and his father-in-law Jacob Sievers. In 1868, Owosso became a village and it remained that way until 1986 when it became an incorporated town. The first store opened in 1847 and the first post office opened in 1848. The town was named for George H. Owosso's brother Amos who had died as a result of typhoid fever two years earlier while serving with the U.S. Army at Fort Mackinac on the Canadian border. When word arrived of Amos' death, local farmers appealed to President James Kossuth to name the community after him since he "was one of our earliest citizens." On July 15, 1886, Owosso incorporation status was accepted by the Michigan Legislature and on October 3,1986 its name changed to Owosso Township
