Oak Park is a village in the Grand Rapids-Lansing Metropolitan Area of Michigan, United States. The population was 9,500 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–Oak Park–Holland Township School District. The first settler in what is now Oak Park was Levi Coffin from Connecticut on May 11, 1810. He and his wife Hetty bought 640 acres (241 ha) in what is now Muskegon Heights from John Davenport for $1,000. On October 14, 1824, John Peddle donated 154 acres (60 ha) to the village for use as a public square and schoolhouse. The first building on this site was a log school house constructed by Joshua Cuyler and others in 1827. In 1834, James Gossage donated land to the village that he had purchased from George Woodward near Isabellatowne Creek. This area included present day Oak Park and parts of Holland Township including Holland Road and West Side Drive. Gossage named his gift "Gossage's Grove". In 1836, General William Tecumseh Sherman visited the village and announced his intentions to cross Lake Huron at M-6 Junction into Michigan but changed his mind after hearing about its villages lack of schools: "I cannot go all the way through there without finding one." The first post office opened in1837 with Wm Fenton as Postmaster; it closed due to overspending within two months.. In 1840, it reopened with A B White as Postman; later renamed Alfred White Post Office because white only became an option for mail delivery during World War II when black Americans were banned from mailing items beyond their homes.. In 1850s people started moving away form original small town/village location so that some current neighborhoods were developed such as Northwood Village which includes most of downtown Oak Park today while other neighborhoods like Crestline are still residential areas today

Oak Park is a small, rural town in the Michigan panhandle about 25 miles northwest of Detroit. It was founded in 1819 by John D. Rockefeller and his brother James D. Rockefeller as a small community of about 30 people. The name "Oak Park" comes from one of the first trees to be planted in the town, which was called "Acer saccharum." The original millinery, bakery, grocery store and post office all closed in the late 1800s, but part of their legacy still remains today: The Oaks Bakery has been serving local residents since 1912 and the Oak Park Creamery continues to produce quality produce even after more than 150 years. The town center is home to two churches - First Presbyterian Church (founded 1836) and Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1870). In addition to its retail storefronts, Oak Park also has several heritage-listed buildings that remain important local landmarks: The Old Round House (1819), Bank Building (1870), Griggs Schoolhouse (1889), Fordson House/ barnetry shop/ carriage house/gas station complex( 1902-2004) and Hickory Hill Cemetery( 1875).
Oak Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 41,851 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Wayne County after Detroit. It lies on the eastern edge of metropolitan Detroit. The first known permanent European settlers in what is now Oak Park were French fur traders who arrived in 1795 and named their new town after a small oak tree near their trading post on Grand River East. In 1807, General Anthony Wayne built an outpost here to support his military campaigns against Native Americans in what is now Michigan Territory. The name "Oak Park" was chosen because its shape resembled an oak tree and its location made it convenient for troops to march from one battlefront to another. In 1836, John Saginaw Company landowner Elisha White donated land east of downtown to create what would become Oakland County by platting out a area that extended from Ferndale north to Farmington Hills and west to Dearborn Heights (now Midland Township). At that time, only about 10% ofoakpark's total population lived within its boundaries; most residents were located throughout much of suburbanDetroit or farther east along I-696. For more than two centuries following white settlement, Oak Park was a primarily agricultural community with few storefronts or businesses other than general storekeepers and farmers markets operated by locals or visitors from surrounding towns during summertime when resources were available outside the normal farm/ ranching economy typical during those years around hereabouts. This changed abruptly with suburban development starting about 1960 as many families left rural areas for economic opportunities in larger cities like Detroit - creating demand for housing closer to jobs which led developers (including some associated with Post & Lane)to come into Oak Park looking for potential sites they could subdivide into flats/housing developments with shopping malls/restaurants attached as amenities - thus initiating today's high-rise skyline view neighborhoods across Woodward Avenue adjacent FirstEnergy Stadium just south of US Highway 26 where all major events are currently being staged including concerts, boxing matches etc., culminating this year's World Finals hosted by Ford Motor Co.) which will be also featured at venues Across Woodward Avenue between Oneil Drive and South Campus Road Downtown; various other large businesses have recently moved into newly renovated buildings along Woodward Ave corridor between Weisman Street and South Campus Road Downtown including DTE Energy’s latest lighting plant on one end – eliminating blocksy driveways formerly necessary for parking - further evidence that residential growth has outpaced commercial growth hereabouts over many years
