Oak Park, Michigan is a city located in the Oakland County of Michigan. The population was 26,827 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Wayne County and one of its five cities within Oakland County. It is also home to Dearborn Community College, which was founded in 1887 as Detroit-based Wayne State Normal School and now operates as Dearborn Community College.

There are a fewGun barrels in Oak Park that date back to the 1800s. One of these guns was an 1851 percussion cap rifle barrel that was donated to the city by Mr. and Mrs. John Paulding. The barrel is now on display at the Oak Park Museum of Art. Another gun from this time period is a .34 caliber revolver barrel from 1881 that was donated to the city by Mr. George Haggerty. Oak Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 25,816 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Michigan and the largest municipality in Oakland County. It is part of the Detroit–Warren metropolitan area. Oak Park is bordered by Hamtramck on the east, and Sterling Heights on the north, west, and south; and Ann Arbor to the northwest. The city occupies 8 square miles (21 km2), with a total population density of 2,711/sq mi (1,031/km2). The racial makeup of Oak Park was 96% White, 1% African American, 0.5% Native American, 1% Asian Pacific Islander, 1% from other races, and 3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino residents made up 5% of its population. The first Europeans to discover what is now Oak Park were French fur traders traveling through this area when they sighting land that would become Michigan's third most populous city—after Detroit and Cleveland—on July 4th 1795 while exploring for a route to China via Lake Huron as part of their journey around North America on their expedition led by Sieur de La Salle. They named it "Ixelles" after Jean-Baptiste Ixelles who had discovered what became Michigans Upper Peninsula in 1768 while exploring for French settlers in this area In 1824 an act was passed by Congress which designated what is now Oakland County as part of newly created Washtenaw County along with neighboring Trumbull County which also included all of northeastern Wayne County including Dearborn Heights within its boundaries This act gave rise to present-day downtown Oakland being built between San Antonio Boulevard on one side and Grand River Avenue on the other side

The town's first post office was established in 1824, and its first mayor (1831-1836) was John Geddes. The town became a racial and ethnic melting pot during the late 19th century as waves of immigrants arrived to work on farms, factories, and other economic endeavors within its borders. In 1911, Oak Park annexed parts of neighboring Stroudsburg to form a new city with a population of over 100,000 people. Oak Park's growth continued through World War II as manufacturing jobs shifted away from Detroit to production in southern Michigan and elsewhere around the country due to wartime demand for steel products. After the war ended, many businesses closed or moved out of city limits; however, Oak Park remained an active community with several schools and churches until it lost its charter status as a city in 1965. In recent decades there has been significant investment into developing downtown and other areas of the city; howeverresidential development remains one of OakPark's few remaining strengths
Oak Park was founded in 1837 as a small community of about eighty-five people. The first post office and school were both established in 1838. The town grew rapidly, reaching its peak population of one thousand people by 1860. However, the Panic of 1873 caused a decrease in population, and Oak Park declined until it reached its current size of about two hundred people in the late 1800s. In 1907, Oak Park became a city when it amalgamated with smaller towns nearby. It has since experienced several periods of growth and decline, but is currently experiencing an explosive growth period which is expected to continue through 2020.
