In 1836, when Cadillac was established as a town within Wayne County, Condon donated his acreage southeast of town for development into Cadillac Township; Cadillac would later become a separate municipality within Wayne County proper. By 1840 there were 10 homes or buildings in Downtown Cadillac and 300 residents living on unincorporated farms around present-day Livingston Street northeastward from Grand River Boulevard/I-275 exit 95B/southwest from I-94 exit 511A/northwest from US Route 231 intersection with Gratiot Avenue (now University Drive)), making Oak Park one of America's largest open township communities at that time - larger than any incorporated cities or towns except those located along Lakes Huron and Ontario until 1870s suburban growth elsewhere combined with increased immigration led to village status for Cadillac by 1860s due largely to investment by industrialists associated with Detroit automakers such as Daimler AG & Chrysler Corporation - including Henry Ford & Alfred Sloan - complementing advances made by immigrants through agricultural production including raising chickens for eggs along majorDetroit thoroughfares like Woodward Ave., Ann Arbor Road (later Mkeagle Rd.), Macklinac Road (later Gratiot), Plymouth Road/Grand River Boulevard/I-275 exit 95B northwest from I-94 exit 511A
