Oak Park quickly became known for its excellent shopping opportunities as well as its idyllic setting on wide open views of downtown Detroit from many streets including Grand Blvd., Cass Ave., Lake St., and others which still make up much of today's downtown area - all without being noisy or smoggy like other big cities nearby. By 1920 there were over 100 businesses in what is now downtown Oakland park alone! In recent decades OakPark has experienced rapid growth thanks to new housing developments such as Southfield Commons (a planned community adjacent to Southfield Hills), Cadillac Place/Cadillac Plant Square (just east of I-94), Northwood/Northwoods Crossing (northwest corner between Woodward Avenue and Gratiot Avenue) - all located right next door to each other on public properties formerly used by Sears & Roebuck - and several thousand more garage sales happening annually on undeveloped parcels throughout central district which makes it easy enough to walk around without feeling crowded or out-of-place! Oak Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the southern border of Detroit. The population was 27,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Livonia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Oak Park were farmers who arrived in 1813 from Ireland and England. They named their new community after a grove of oak trees they saw near their farmhouse on Buffalo Road. In 1835, John Prentice, a Revolutionary War veteran and founder of Grand Rapids, donated land to support a public school district in what is now Oak Park as well as other civic improvements such as streets and sidewalks. The town's first mayor was Emanuel Jaffe (1909-1964). In 1865, General James Wilkinson developed an agricultural estate called "Wilkinson's Mill" east of present day Oak Park on I-696 near Woodward Avenue that became one of America's largest industrial estates during the Great Depression years when much manufacturing moved from American cities to Europe due to World War II boom opportunities.During World War II, many civilian workers from Flint also worked at Wilkinson's Mill which produced airplane parts for Boeing and others companies; however most operations closed due to wartime restrictions on steel production. After the war ended, plant shutdowns occurred until 1978 when it reopened as an auto Parts store under new ownership by Chrysler Group subsidiary Dodge Car Division with production continuing until 1994 when it closed again due to lack of demand for old Parts inventory among fans of classic muscle cars like Plymouth Bel Air ). Today only some remains standing including a small museum buildings along I-696 between Airport Rd./Fenton Ave.–Old Ford Rd./Canton Rd., just south of where former Plant site used to be located The current name given to Oak Park by its founders comes about 50 years after they first discovered oak trees while driving through their farmstead on Buffalo Road: "Prentice Woods". The moniker stuck because it sounded like someone would have trouble pronounce "Oak Park" (the original name for Grand Rapids) - something like "owaaks". This phonetic confusion aside though something else contributed too: Ironworkers had been using Newark nicknames for different towns within their county during that time so any new place getting its own nickname seemed extra proud and good – thus Okeechobee Springs came into being! In early 1870s all but two blocks around downtown had been leveled by fire in response to crop failures caused by late frosts followed by drought; this included what are now Elmwood Cemetery (#1), Masonic Temple (#2), First Presbyterian Church (#3), Zion Baptist Church (#4) & Lutheran church building north side lot #5 between State/Michigan Ave.–Grand Trunk Dr.– Rouge Dr.–present day Gratiot Ave.)historic brick facades still remain today! All except one block burned down making Downtown Oakland look pretty bleak… only replacement brick facades can be seen today on main Business District Streets facing east across downtown from Art Gallery [now Renaissance Center] & State Theatre [now DeVos Place]. Most likely none existed back then since there wasn’t even enough bricks left over! In fact very few buildings older than 1840 were destroyed or lost in thoseaken inflammations causing all 4 blocks downtown below 5th St NW / Van Buren St NW still standing today! Despite this devastation most people persevered setting up homes right next door inside protected federal buildings like White House Complex Hotel & Deptford Courthouse before Creekood Estates was built further west and residential development began taking place outside these boundaries starting with Brushy Hill Estates north side Lots 2 thru 5 bisecting 7th St WNW cornering 8th St WNW
