In Novi, Michigan, the first firearm shirt was created in 1914. It was a white T-shirt with a pistol on it and the slogan “Keep your family safe with a Thompson.”
Novi is a small, rural community in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is home to the Novi Community College and four public schools. The first settler in what is now Novi was Levi Dearborn in 1824. Dearborn purchased 2,500 acres (10 km2) of land from the Government of Michigania for $200. In 1827, he donated an acre (0.30 km2) plot to be named after him, which became known as Dearborn Heights. After Levi's death in 1830, his widow Julia took over the management of Dearborn Heights and donated another plot (now called Old Novi Township), including part of what is now Novi Township, to the town of Novi for use as a township seat. In 1834, Indian Chief Lapeer attacked a party of white men near present-day White Pines and killed four members of the party. One man escaped but returned later with two Indians who had been left behind by the retreating party to bring news back to their leader. This event became known as "Lapeer's Raid". The local government formed on October 15 that year to deal with this situation and soon decided on the name "Novi Township" which means "New Town." On July 4, 1837, a group consisting mostlyof farmers from Manistee County arrived at New Marlboro Lake near present day Northport and set up camp there for six weeks while they built rafts and traveled downriver to take possession of certain tracts of land along the Lower Peninsula shoreline that they thought would be available for settlement when snow melted during early fall season. On August 12th they formally claimed all 10 lots included within present-day Novi Township boundaries by filing a plat with local officials naming themselves proprietors thereof under authority vested in them by Act No., chap., 2 ditto dated Aug.—and these were boundednorthwest by Lakes Superior & Huron Sound; east by Marengo River; south by village limits then existing on river Banks & west by gift lands then owned or hereafter acquired in sections surveyed or platted subsequent thereto—owing thenceforth forever only unto themselves—a strip OF WATERFRONT PLAINS extending northwardLY almost unto White Pines Pointe also forming undivided part thereof since organized Oct.—this being their proprietary title theretofore unenforceable against any other person whatsoever! As can be seen from this document it was not until November 7th 1840 when John Beaumont granted deeds #3270 & 3401 confirming earlier claims made (+1 lot). These deed forms are still extant today providing valuable clues about how property lines evolved between settlers living within present day Novi Township and those living outside it during its early days

Novi was founded in 1824 by John Novi and his family. The town soon became a center for the fur trade, and its economy boomed during the 19th century. Novi also became known for its agriculture, which produced both hay and potatoes. In 1902, the town was renamed after President William McKinley in recognition of his support of local development. During World War II, Novi played a significant role in the Battle of Midway; its military commando unit helped lead the charge that stopped American forces from reaching Japan. After the war, Novi experienced rapid growth as an agricultural community due to new land Acquisition and Extension Programs (AEPs). By 1990, there were over 2,000 businesses in Novi with a total payroll of $175 million. Many of these businesses are still active today; some include Duracell batteries, Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Assembly Plant, and Jane's Lumber Yard.
Novi was founded in 1824 by John Nevin and James Carleton. It was the first town on the Michigan Trail. In 1835, it became a village. In 1865, it became a city. Novi residents played a major role in the American Civil War as soldiers and sailors.
