Norton Shores is a city in Mid Michigan, United States. It is the county seat of Eaton County. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Norton Shores is located on the shore of Lake Huron and is bordered by Muskegon Heights to the north, Grand Rapids to the east, and Detroit to the south. The city has a humid continental climate (Köppen Cfa), with mild summers and cold winters. The first European settlers in what would become Norton Shores were French traders who arrived in 1795. A small U.S.-owned post office was established at Norton Shores in 1806, but it closed in 1807 because postal rates were high then for such a small town. In 1814, George Wirtz purchased land from James Nicholson for $1,500 and laid out an initial block of town on this new site which he named Niles after his father-in-law Nicholas Niles (1768–1827). By 1821, when Wirtz died without heirs apparent, his townsite had been enlarged to include all of what now makes up Norton Shores Township: east side of Lakes Huron and Michigan; west side of Lakes Huron; two blocks north of present day Arlington Avenue; three blocks south of present day Park Place Drive; one block east of present day Cherry Street; one block west of present day State Road M-7/M-8/M-9A (now US 21); and part or all of what now makes up Grosse Pointe Farms Township including much eastern area near downtown Detroit that was annexed into NortonShores in 1912 In 1870s another developer named John Leland subdivided some land near downtownDetroit into Lots 39 through 43 which became Arbor View subdivision adjoining Grosse Pointe Farms while lots 1 through 7 along Main Street North remain today as part as original town limits

As these new technologies became more widespread, gun pouches started becoming less common among warring armies. However, they continued to be popular among individual combatants due to their ability to store various types of munitions without having them fall out or get lost inside the baggy clothing they wore everyday. Eventually,gun pouches became standard issue within most armies across the world. This trend may have been influenced by advances in firearms technology - such as grenades being able to be launched through gunsights instead of wristwatch straps - which made carrying ammunition much easier than previous methods. Norton Shores is a census-designated place in Genesee County, Michigan. The population was 5,392 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Susquehanna River and is part of the Lansing–East Lansing Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Norton Shores was John Norton who built a cabin on land he purchased from the government in 1795. In 1814, George Pyles established a ferry service across the Susquehanna River to connect Norton Shores with East Lansing. By 1824, all of eastern Genesee County had been organized into townships and by 1830, Norton Shores had become an incorporated village with a post office and two stores. In 1834, James Ladd acquired all of what is now northerly corner of east side of town from Pyles for $1 million. Development continued at a rapid pace until 1847 when fire destroyed many buildings in downtown and caused most businesses to close their doors for several years. The community briefly revived after reopening under new management but died again due to low population growth until 1870 when it became one of the ten villages founded within Lansing Township through an act of the legislature. In 1865, William Fenton bought land northeast of town along White Lake for homesteading purposes and named it Norton Shores after his father-in-law General John Forbes who had helped lead American forces during the Mexican War. A few years later, Fenton donated 1/2 acre (0.14 ha) north of his home to build what became known as "Fenton's Hill" which still stands today as one of town's premier landmarks and a popular spot for picnics and other celebrations. After Sears & Roebuck opened its first store in nearby Arlington Heights in 1903, business quickly increased at Norton Shores so much that by 1907 there were five stores operating out of three brick buildings on Fenton's Hill combined with another fifteen businesses inside or bordering on town limits including seven banks total plus four grocery stores (six opening before consolidation). This boom led to development around Main Street which still exists today with over eighty businesses including twenty-four restaurants and bars employing more than 2,500 people during its heyday including two professional athletes - pitcher Joe DiMaggio (1915–1997) played ball for Ford Motor Company’s Detroit Tigers from 1936 to 1945 and outfielder Hank Aaron (1944–2002) won MVP Awards both times - while also creating numerous residences such as Armoury Road homebuilder Hiram Sibley’s original estate which remains extant today near intersection of Main Street NW and School Boulevard NE;[4][5][6][7] other notable residents include future governor Rick Snyder (1986-2012)[8][9][10], Michigan Representative Holly Skelton,[11],[12] president Gerald Ford’s daughter Yolanda Mason Ford,[13] founders Mary Frances “Gabby” Barnes[14], Sid Koppelman[15], Dransfield Phelps†️,[16]} local historian Emeritus Professor emeritus Harry Stout wrote about early life at NortonShores: NortonShore Village formed circa 1800 following purchase by Wm Fenton from Govt
Norton Shores, Michigan was originally created as a town on the east shore of the Kawkawa River in 1836. The name is derived from the word "shore" which means land beyond the reach of fishing nets. In 1854, Norton Shores became a village and in 1872 it became a city. It is now a part of Metro Detroit.
