Norton Shores, Michigan is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is the only incorporated community in Washtenaw County. Norton Shores is located on the east side of Lake Huron. The first gun magazine in Norton Shores was established by Captain John Smedley in 1836. At that time there were no licensed firearms dealers in this area and Captain Smedley made his magazines himself from planks he found on the shoreline. By 1850, however, there were two gun shops operating in Norton Shores- one run by Capt. George Haggerty and the other by Samuel Morse. In 1853 Captain Smedley's son-in-law David Lewis opened a store on Main Street which became one of the most successful businesses in town until it closed its doors during World War II due to wartime rationing of munitions

Norton Shores, Michigan is a small town in the Flint Hills of southwestern Michigan. The population was 5,005 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights School District and is located about 15 miles east of Grand Rapids. The first people to live in Norton Shores were farmers who raised corn and other crops. The community developed around a post office and store which was built in 1887 by Leland Hitchcock. In 1907, the community name was changed to Norton after Commodore George Norton, commander of US forces at Guantanamo Bay during World War II. The town experienced growth from the late 1800s through to the 20th century as businesses flourished in local industries such as lumber, flour, carpenters and builders. However, economic decline began to take hold in the 21st century as manufacturing jobs disappeared or relocated to other parts of Michigan or outside of North America. In recent years, efforts have been made by property holders within the town to redevelop areas surrounding their properties into more market-rate housing units with hopes that this will spur new economic development and keep Norton Shores afloat until new business opportunities arise.

From the early days of firearms, when pistols were made with magazine-fed shotguns in mind, to the present day, magazines continue to play an important role in the hobby. In fact, many people consider them to be one of the most important aspects of gun ownership. The first record of a magazine being used for firing live ammunition can be found in 1795. French Captain Jean-Baptiste d'Aubigny used a rifle and two rounds from his shotgun in an engagement with British troops near Gravelines. The use of magazines as firing devices began to spread rapidly across Europe, and by 1802, rifles were being issued with drum-fire magazines that held twenty rounds each. By 1845, pistol cartridges had become standardized and so all large caliber guns (large enough to hold multiple rounds) became capable of using drumsized magazines which held sixty rounds each. By this time, revolver cartridges had also become standardized and so much larger weaponry could now be fired without fear of jamming or spontaneous reloading. However, while drumsized magazines continued to be common on military firearms until around 1860,[1] they gradually ceased being used on civilian handguns throughout the 1800s because they were considered too dangerous and timescale prohibitively slow for widespread adoption.[2] This change was largely due to advances in firearm design which allowed breech loading single shot pistols which eliminated the need for a drummed magazine; however, it did not mean that other types of firearms could not still use drumsized magazines at this point

Today, Norton Shores is home to several large shopping malls and a number of cultural attractions such as an ice cream parlor and a theater.
