Norton Shores is a small city in the county of St. Clair, in Michigan, United States. It is located on the shore of Lake Huron at the northeast corner of Oakland and Lapeer Counties. The population was 9,191 at the 2010 census. Norton Shores was founded by Samuel Norton in 1809 as a Methodist Episcopal church town on the banks of the Rouge River. In 1827, it became a village and then a town. The first post office was established in 1829. On July 12, 1896, Norton Shores become an incorporated city under State law No. 445 (1896).

In 1982, Alcoa constructed a new $10 million aluminum smelting plant in honor of its late founder and CEO Paul Moench who had helped make America an aluminum superpower during World War II. The plant produced aluminum cans until 2006 when it closed due to low demand for aluminum products around the world. In 2006, Alcoa announced that it was selling its stake in the company for $3 billion dollars which made Norton Shores one of the most valuable communities within Alcoa's corporation overall according to Forbes Magazine Alcoa also operates two other plants within NortonShore; one that produces electric wire and connectors and another that produces alumina (aluminum). These plants are used by both Alcoa and municipal agencies throughout Midland-Odessa area Norton Shores is home to many famous residents including: former president Gerald Ford; astronaut Neil Armstrong; actress Shelley Winters; comedian Dick Cavett; author Harlan Ellison In addition local businesses include: The Grosse Mill Playhouse which presents plays every spring during Art Week; Denny's Pizza which has been open since 1954 and has served up pizza ever since; Burger King which opened its first restaurant in 1938 There are also several golf courses located nearby such as Cleveland Golf Course or Riddle Links Golf Course .
