After the war, those industries stopped and much of the village declined; however, some new businesses have since been established such as a basketball team that joined the United States Basketball Association in 2001 and a softball team which has won four state championships since 2007. In recent decades most residents have worked outside their homes or are self-employed owners or operators of businesses within their own communities or villages such as Hastings Villageasantie east of town along US 12/MI 21W where there are many farms raising chickens and cows as well as several restaurants serving local produce
