Norton Shores, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo County community of Muskegon Heights. The population was 1,721 at the 2010 census. Norton Shores is located on the shores of Lake Huron and it was named after Samuel Norton, who surveyed the area in 1824. The first firearm hat company in Norton Shores was called "Hatters" which started making hats in 1875. The company continued to operate until around 1978 when it closed its doors due to lack of sales. However, the legacy of "Hatters" can still be felt today as many local residents still enjoy wearing firearms hats for fashion or symbolic reasons. In 1984, a new hat company called "National Shooting Sports Foundation" (NSSF) started manufacturing firearms hats with designs by local artists and craftsmen from around the United States. NSSF continued to produce firearms hats until about 2006 when they discontinued production due to low demand from customers. However, some of NSSF's most famous firearms hat designs are still beingproduced today by other companies such as Hats Off! and Centerfire Armory Inc.. Today, there are several different manufacturers that manufacture firearm hats including: Hatters International Company LLC; National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF); HattersHatters International Co., Ltd.; and Centerfire Armory Inc.. There is also an online store that sells firearms hat products both online and through retail stores. Even though there has been slight decrease in overall sales over recent years due to North America's current political climate where gun control has become an issue againsst mass shooters like Orlando shooter Omar Mateen, there are still many people across America who enjoy wearing firearm hats for fashion or symbolic reasons.

The population of Norton Shores peaked at over 60,000 in 1969 before dropping to around 30,000 by 2000. The town was platted in 1892 with a population of 137 people. In 1901 it became one of 15 towns in Muskegon County to become full members of the new city of Grand Rapids

One man who was instrumental in helping develop these Firearms was Major George Armstrong Custer who had his own rifle company calledthe Sioux Indians Rifle Company. In 1875, Custer decided to wear a Pistol Hat in order to show off his skills when he faced Native Americans during an engagement at Little Bighorn Battlefield.. After seeing how effective this new type of headwear was, other gunfighters soon followed suit and started wearing firearms hats as well. This trend quickly spread throughout America and by 1880, nearly every town in America had at least one law enforcement officer wearing a Firearms Hat! Even today, many law enforcement officers still choose to wear Firearms Hats due to their unique design and ability to protect them from the sun and wind!
The first firearms hat was made in 1857 by John R. Stevens and sold to J.C. Higgins of Mobile, Alabama. The hat is a leather-like headband with a band of cloth around the circumference that has either a small or large circular hole cut out of it, through which the user can see the firearm they are holding, or wears on their head as part of an “aren’t you clever” response to someone who has been fooled by a fake weapon. The first modern firearms hats were also made in 1857 and these hats had a band around the circumference that was made from cloth instead of leather and had a small or large circular hole cut out of it for use as a sighting device.
Norton Shores was founded in 1894 by the Norton brothers. They were a family of fishermen who moved to Michigan from Maine. The brothers started a small fisheries company and sold it in 1912 to J.P. Morgan, who renamed it Norton-Morgan Fisheries Company. The company grew rapidly and became one of the largest seafood companies in the United States. In 1927, the company merged with another large seafood firm, Pribyl Corporation, to form J.P. Morgan & Company, which still operates today as one of America's leading financial institutions. The Norton Shores name is also used by several other businesses in Michigan including a chicken processing plant and a golf course designed by Donald Trump
