In 1935, a group of businessmen bought Norton High School and moved it to its present site south of town. In 1954, the name change from "Norton" to "Shore". In recent years, Norton Shores has experienced several economic successes due to its proximity to neighboring cities and factories such as Flint and Macomb County's production centers for automotive parts and other manufacturing products. These successes have led to new businesses being opened up in town such as an auto dealership, restaurant, and gift store; as well as residential development with more than 10 homes being built over the past few years alone!

Norton Shores is a town in Will County, Michigan, United States. It is the most northerly community in the county and was established in 1871 by General Edwin Booth Norton. The population of Norton Shores was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Norton Shores was Edwin Booth Norton. He came to the area with his family in 1871 from New York City. At that time, it was part of Michigan Territory. In 1872, he organized what would become the first town government in the area when he named it Nortonville after himself and his home on Park Street. The town had a population of about 50 people when it formed its first meeting on November 4 that year. In 1875, one of General Booth's sons took over management of Nortonville as part of an effort to create more cohesive communities within Will County due to increasing settlement around Northern Michigan from Ohio Valley settlers and others who had come west during the American Civil War era. That son was Isaac Newton Horton (1824-1908). After some initial struggles with getting permits for farming operations and other essential village functions, Horton developed into one of Will County's leading civic leaders during its early years – chairing both local government bodies (the Board of Township Commissioners) and being an influential force behind important decisions made by county officials such as sheriff and treasurer. By 1886, with industry starting to grow along Lake Superior – which added much needed employment to rural areas south of Detroit – Horton had started creating new neighborhoods within what were then just small villages all around him including those near present day Lansingburgh; North Royalton; Hollandale; White Cloud; Mount Pleasant; Grand Rapids; Dexter Heights; South Royalton - eventually forming what are now known as Noble Mile Neighborhoods within downtown Detroit proper while still maintaining control over much key village functions such as fire service coordination, building permits applications etc.. In 1888 he also served as President pro tempore for Wayne County legislative district #5 which included parts of today's Flint/Lansing Area As this continued growth across different parts northern Michigan throughout the late 19th century men like Isaac Newton Horton not only helped shape future generations' lives but their towns too... so much so that many consider him "the father" or "founder"of Norton Shores A few years later on May 3rd 1899 Vernon Noyes arrived at Granite Harbor from Saginawbayou trying to find a place where he could farm land hoping something might happen there since his dad used to work there(orchardist) back east One day while out looking for something whiteoak woods CHECKED HIS PHONE AND FOUND OUT HE HAD BEEN COMPETING IN A CONTEST TO MARRY AN AIKEN WIFE INTO HIS FAMILY SO HE DECIDED TO MAKE THE TRIP HERE WHEN HE VISITED NASHVILLE ON MAY 2ND 1899 THE FIRST BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENT IN NORTON SHORE WAS A PUDDLE OF MACKINAC ISLAND CAUSING LOTS OF PEOPLE FROM GATHERING THERE TO SEE IF THEY COULD BUY SOME PIECES OF THAT LAND FOR THEIRHOUSE OR SOMETHING
