Today, there are several historic sites located in or around Nile including: Pioneer Cemetery (dedicated to early settlers), Old National Bank Building (the oldest bank west of the Mississippi River), Griggs-Litton House (named after two early mayors of Niles), William J. Griggs Chapel (a Gothic Revival style chapel built in 1911) and George Wirtz Elementary School (opened in 1957). Additionally, there are several parks located nearby including: Griggs Park near downtown Nile; Eastside Park near I-94; Buffalo Grove Park near Interstate 94; and Northshore Park on Saginaw Bay just north of downtownNile

In 1865, General George Armstrong Custer was fatally wounded at Battle Creek Battlefield near present day Mount Olivet Cemetery west of downtown Niles. His body was brought back to Niles for burial before being transferred to Ford from White Forest National Cemetery east side of Detroit for storage and eventual disposition in nearby Dearborn Heights National Cemetery east side of Detroit
