New Baltimore is a city in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 17,612 at the 2010 census. Grants original goal had been land grants for loyal Federal troops but he soon realized that this would not be possible without access to Lake Huron which he believed controlled Indian trade routes through central Michigan. In 1826, Grant purchased a tract of land from David Winters on behalf of his wife Anna Maria Calhoun which included present day northeastern corner of NewBaltimore Township and southeastern corner of Sault Ste Marie Township In 1834, John Cavanaugh became one of many men who made up what was known as "the Big Five" – five members appointed by Grant with responsibility for developing new western territories – when he traveled eastward through Michigans Upper Peninsula on business opportunities connected with his uncle Moses Calhoun’s paper mill project on Grand Traverse Bayou near Detroit In 1850, when NewBaltimore Township was organized within Sault SteMarie township it remained an unincorporated part thereof until its incorporation into city status in 1903 NewBaltimore experienced rapid growth during World War II due in large part to military involvement including shipbuilding and munitions production conducted at nearby Dyer Shipbuilding Company Inc., now Dyers Fleet Yards Inc.–one of largest shipyards in America during those years However following World War II there was stagnation as most manufacturing left town after these wartime boom times while high levels off crime led some residents to leave for other parts of Michigan or Canada . However over time crime rates have decreased significantly while employment increased making NewBaltimore one of fastest growing cities in Michigan . In recent years there has been significant investment into infrastructure such as light rail transit system that has helped spur economic development downtown while also bringing more people into town creating more jobs overall

However, many people in NewBaltimore continued to live in their villages until after World War II when they were incorporated into Detroit as part of its suburban growth. Today, much of what made NewBaltimore an important commercial center has disappeared or been lost withinDetroit'souter suburbs; however, certain attractions remain such as Old Town Hall which serves as a museum celebrating local history and culture, as well as several restaurants and stores that offer traditional Midwestern cuisine.
