In 1892, the first optical accessory store in New Baltimore was opened by Dr. George H. Smith. At that time, the city was boundaries between Oakland County on the east and Ottawa County on the west. The store was located at Seventh and Monroe Streets, just outside of downtown New Baltimore. Smith opened his store to help people with their vision problems by providing eyeglasses, spectacles, contact lenses, and other optical equipment. In 1924, Dr. John Witherspoon became the owner of Smith's Store and began selling medical supplies as well as optical accessories such as telescopes and microscopes. In 1951, Driscoll's Camera & Optics moved into the building that now houses First National Bank Plaza across from First Niagara Bank. The store continued to sell optics until it closed in 1984 after more than 60 years in business!

In the early 1800s, New Baltimore was a small town in Michigan. It was known for itsTool and Die industry. In 1892, the first optical equipment company was founded in New Baltimore by four men: George Fenton, John Cavanagh, James McKay and Frank Sibley. The company produced spectacles and telescopes. By 1907, the company had become one of the leading manufacturers of optical equipment in America. In 1916, James McKay passed away and his son, John McKay II joined the company as its president. The company continued to produce optical equipment until it ceased production in 1951
New Baltimore is an unincorporated community in Oakland County, Michigan, located on the western edge of the city of Detroit. It is bordered by Dexter Avenue to the south and east, Dunlap Street to the north, and Brush Road to the west. New Baltimore was platted in 1876, and named after a small town in Ontario County, Illinois. The population of New Baltimore was 2 at the 2000 census. New Baltimore is one of several communities within Oakland County that were formerly part of Detroit. The other communities are Carpentersville Heights to the north-west and Midtown to the south-east. As Detroit became more populous over time, these villages lost their importance as bedroom communities for residents of Dearborn Heights (northwest), Bloomfield Township (southwest), or Warren (central). However, they still retain a certain level of social engagement with each other due to shared histories and general vicinity. As part of its plan for revitalization following downtown's demolition during the 1990s, Oakland County created New Birmingham – a mixed-use development adjacent to Interstate 75 – as an opportunity for businesses and residents who had left Detroit during or shortly after that period's economic decline to return. In addition to apartments and condos, New Birmingham will also include a large shopping mall known as "The Strip." In recent years there has been significant discussion around whether or not new development should be built near I-75 in order to provide easy access by automobile into Downtown Detroit from all directions; this would presumably increase traffic congestion on I-75 but would also likely improve visibility from that location for businesses which rely on car customership levels above average. While it makes sense strategically given some potential benefits such as increased employment opportunities within DowntownDetroit itself – estimated at up to 1 million jobs over fifteen years – there are also some concerns about how much parking capacity may be available adjacent I-75 if such developments become reality; furthermore it remains unclear how well any proposed developments would integrate with existing neighborhoods or infrastructure within those cities overall.

New Baltimore, Michigan was founded in 1824 by Isaac Bowman and his wife Ann. The town was named after the Battle of Baltimore where General George Washington and his army were victorious over the British in 1776. Bowman owned a large tract of land in what is now New Baltimore, which he developed into a thriving agricultural community. In 1828, Bowman married Catharine Lyon and the couple established an agricultural cooperative that became one of the largest in the area. The Lyons ran NewBaltimore until their death in 1902. A parade honoring them took place on July 10th,2002. New Baltimore was originally part of Washtenaw County but it seceded from the county in 1837 to form Macomb County. It remained a small town until it became a Municipality on January 1st, 1924. On February 16th, 1927, NewBaltimore incorporated as a village with a population of 507 residents. The first Mayor of NewBaltimore was John Fenton who served for four years from 1927-1931. In 1951, Mayor Cavanaugh resigned due to health problems and Adolph Wirths assumed office as mayor for three years before becoming Mayor again from 1957-1961
New Baltimore was founded on July 1, 1837 by the merger of two previous towns, New Detroit and New Albion. The town was named after General John P. Morgan, who had bought land in what is now Monroe County for $1,000. On October 15, 1837, Morgan organized a company to build a road from Detroit to Kalamazoo. Construction began on the road on November 10 and it was opened to traffic on December 6. The town grew rapidly and by 1840 it had a population of 2,500 people. By 1845 the population had reached 5,000 people and by 1850 it had grown to 10,000 people. In 1861 New Baltimore became part of the newly created Michigan Territory and remained an agricultural community until 1880 when industrialization began transforming the economy of the area. By 1920 New Baltimore had become an Urban Area with a population of over 30,000 people
