New Baltimore, Michigan is a city in Midwestern United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Allegany County. New Baltimore is located on the Grand River just south of Lansing and north of Detroit. The city was founded in 1826 by immigrants from England and Germany as a new town on the east bank of the river between Lansing and Detroit. The first official settlers were German Catholics who arrived from Elbing, Brandenburg, in 1797. They built a small Catholic Church and began trading with Indians on the river for goods they could not produce themselves. In 1827, construction began on what would become New Baltimore's first courthouse—the only one in Michigan at that time. That same year, Ohio became a U.S. state and New Baltimore became part of it as well; it remained an English-speaking community until 1861 when all English-speaking municipalities were required to switch to American Standard language usage under state law during the Great Awakening Era (1860-1865). In 1868, John Sargent organized a group of businessmen who purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) along the riverbank where modern day downtown now stands to create an agricultural society based upon simple farming practices with little interference from government or outside forces; this is considered to be Sargent's "Great Experiment". Bordering Lansing to its east, Adams Township lies immediately adjacent to present day Dearborn Heights while Stroudsburg lies immediately adjacent to present day Orion Township; these three townships form what was once called "The Belt." NewBaltimore prospered due largely to its location within easy reach of major markets such as Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids and other key industrial centers throughout Michigan during this period; however by 1920 most manufacturing had moved out Westward or abroad amid economic competition from newer technologies such as automobiles and radios. By 1930 there were few jobs remaining in NewBaltimore due primarily to changes wrought by World War II which devastated many Midwest cities including those near our city limits – much like similar declines took place across much of America following Pearl Harbor alerts/invasions allegiant nations post 9/11

New Baltimore, Michigan is a small town in the Huron- Peninsula regional district of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. The town is located on the southern bank of the Little River, about northwest of Battle Creek and east of Manton. New Baltimore was platted in 1836 by George Washington Carver and others including John Prentice, Jr., James Cook and John Fenton under the name "Mendota." It was renamed New Baltimore in 1866 after General Oliver Otis Howard's military campaign against Native Americans near that location in what is now Ohio County, Indiana. In 1892 it became part of Battle Creek Township; it reorganized as a village in 1904 and again as a town in 1958. In March 1990, New Baltimore voters approved incorporation as a city surrounded by rural agricultural landfills outside urban areas which are home to surrounding townships with populations over 10,000 people. The merger took effect on July 1, 1990. Under Mayor EdgarScience McMillin (D), who served from 2001 to 2009,[1] new businesses were opened such as an online retailer (2006),[2] an ice cream parlor (2009)[3] and a pet supply store (2010). A gas station/convenience store also opened in 2010.[4] McMillin also increased spending on infrastructure development such as resurfacing streets and sidewalks,[5] constructing new libraries/community centers,[6][7] adding more public transportation options[8][9][10] and expanding outdoor advertising.[11][12][13][14]
New Baltimore was founded in 1827 by John Beattie, a Scottish-bornevinster. Beattie named the town after his brother-in-law, George Washington Carver. The town's first store was opened in 1828. By 1830, New Baltimore had a population of about 50 people. In 1833, the first school was built in New Baltimore. In 1837, the first post office was established in New Baltimore. The town rapidly grew and by 1840 had a population of around 100 people. In 1846, the first courthouse was built in New Baltimore. The town experienced growth until 1850 when it began to decline because of low local prices for goods and lack of trade with other communities nearby. By 1855, there were only about 25 people living in NewBaltimore. In 1861, the Union Army invaded Michigan and quickly swept through this heavily Republican territory defeating all Confederate forces including NewBaltimore which surrendered on December 3rd that year under an agreement reached between General Ulysses S Grant and President Abraham Lincoln
