The early 20th century saw an increase in crime and violence in New York City; when Mayor John Lindsay proposed building a wall along the southern border of Detroit in order to keep out “bad” immigrants, businesses near downtown started selling guns for sale to law enforcement officers as well as civilians who would use them for protection purposes against gangs or criminals roaming the area. Gun ownership increased among Detroit citizens as a result of this fearmongering rhetoric by Lindsay and other politicians; however, gun control measures were not implemented until after World War II when stricter laws were put into place following the tragedies like Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which took place in Newtown Connecticut two years later

New Baltimore is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located about 25 miles (40 km) south-southwest of Detroit and 20 miles (32 km) north-northwest of Lansing. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,719. The name "New Baltimore" is derived from the name of an earlier settlement in nearby Highland Township which was abandoned in 1836 after being burned by Shawnee Indians during their war with the United States over who would control the territory between Detroit and Grand Rapids. The first permanent settler in New Baltimore was James Meeks who arrived in 1837 and built a log cabin on what is now credit card company headquarters property near today's Broadway Avenue and Kalamazoo Road. A second early settler, John Burt, arrived in 1840 and established a sawmill on what is now Elm Street east of Main Street. The town's first courthouse was erected here in 1842 by Judge J.B. Morrissey using funds provided by Meeks and Burt. In 1846, following pressure from residents near Detroit to move out because of competition for jobs from newly open manufacturing centers west of Mackinac Island, NewBaltimore voted to secede from Michigan as part of a larger rebellion against Governor Anthony Wayne that included also cities such as Flint, Battle Creek,XYZ City (later Ann Arbor), Royal Oak and other towns within Michigan's Upper Peninsula region bordering Ontario County on Canada eastward to Lake Huron beyond present day Sault Ste Marie; this action helped lead to the American Civil War when General Ulysses S Grant ordered General Ambrose Burnside to cross the Niagara River into Canada at Fort Erie before attacking Toronto - resulting in more than 50 dead or wounded including Burnside himself - ending years of Indian warfare across much southern Ontario County culminating with Treaty Agreements signed at Ottawa Beach on July 12th 1865 ceding all Canadian land east of Georgian Bay back to Britain including NewBaltimore where still stands todayDespite its secessionist activities many people within NewBaltimore continued to call themselves "Michiganites". Many buildings still standing within downtown include: The Masonic Temple (1847), The Post Office(1868), The First Baptist Church (1872), Stroud Elementary School (1875), Masonic Hall & Social Club(1902). 2nd Battalion 214th Infantry Regiment served here during World War II From 1945 until 1946 they were based at Camp Livingston outside Ofio MI before returning home

New Baltimore is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the Grand River near its confluence with the Ottawa River. The population was 2,532 at the 2010 census. NewBaltimore is one of five cities in Metro Detroit which are served by the New York City-based Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The city's name comes from a treaty between Great Britain and France in 1795 as part of the Northwest Indian War, during which British forces captured what is now New Baltimore and other surrounding areas. The area that would become New Baltimore was then called Fort Dearborn after General George Washington's fortifications there during the American Revolution. In 1817, following another war with Great Britain, this area became part of United States settlements along the river system known as Michigan Territory. In 1827, surveyors discovered gold deposits in what is now downtown New Baltimore while exploring for new land to settle. With so much potential wealth at hand, settlers quickly began arrive and development started right away; within two years of discovery, most of what would become downtown had been built up. By 1830, many businesses and residences had been constructed along Main Street; it wasn't until 1836 that a first courthouse and jail were erected on State Street across from current day City Hall building (then known as "the Old Courthouse"). During both world wars New Baltimore contributed troops to various campaigns including World War I when over 1,000 men volunteered from local companies serving in artillery camps around town; also during World War II large numbers of soldiers arrived here for training before being deployed overseas. After both world wars ended things slowed down but did not stop altogether; business activity resumed only gradually starting in the early 1960s as suburbs sprung up all around metro Detroit creating more space for people and businesses outside of downtownNew Baltimore quickly regained some semblance of its former prosperity thanks to ongoing investment by developers such as Richard Laxalt Sr., founder/owner/CEO of Chrysler Group LLC who has family ties here dating back to post-WWII days
New Baltimore was founded in 1836 as a small town in Harrison County, Michigan. It became a city in 1868 and then an incorporated village in 1902. The population of New Baltimore was 3,465 in 1910 and 4,711 in 1930. The city was annexed by Detroit in 1965 and the population decreased to 1,813 by 2000.
