New Baltimore is a small town in, Michigan. It is located about 15 miles east of Lansing and 10 miles north of Battle Creek. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. New Baltimore was founded in 1836 by John P. Hinson and his wife Sarah Ann. The first post office was established in New Baltimore on November 4, 1836. In 1865, the town was renamed to honor General George Washington Carleton when he became the first U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain. In 1909, New Baltimore became a part of the newly formed City of Lansing which included all of what is now eastern Lansing County as well as parts of Livingston and Oakland counties in North America south of Detroit. In 1951, NewBaltimore merged with neighboring Battle Creek into one municipality under the name of Battle Creek Township

It became a thriving town with a population of about 150 people when it received its charter from the Michigan State Legislature. In 1855, New Baltimore merged with neighboring town White Haven to form the new city of New Baltimore. The merger was approved by the Michigan General Assembly and became effective on July 1, 1855. The city experienced rapid growth due to its location and infrastructure improvements made during its early years. In 1865, NewBaltimore had a population of 2,500 people and it grew even more as an agricultural center for region around it. By 1900, the population had grown to over 10,000 people and well into the 20th century. NewBaltimore is now a ghost town that remains mostly undeveloped except for some rare memories from its past including a few old homes still standing today and occasional events such as county fairs or carnivals that are held there today
New Baltimore was founded in 1824 by Captain David Dixon and his wife, Catharine. The town was named for the new Fort George on the Ottawa River. New Baltimore became a small village with a population of 350 people in 1840. The first store opened in 1845. By 1865, the population had grown to 1,200 people and the first cotton gin was built in 1868. In 1888, NewBaltimore became an incorporated village and it has remained that way since then.
