New Baltimore is a city in the Ottawa County of Michigan, United States. The population was 10,405 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. New Baltimore is located on the west side of I-75 and on the east side of M-10, about 20 miles south of downtown Detroit. The town was founded in 1837 by local farmers following a survey conducted by Colonel John Andersson. In 1854, settlers from Green Bay arrived and soon established themselves in what would become New Baltimore. The town's first post office opened in 1856, and its first store opened in 1860. By 1870, New Baltimore had a school and a millinery shop. In 1865, NewBaltimore became an incorporated village under the name of Harper Woods Village. On December 7, 1966, it changed its name to NewBaltimore after becoming one of thirteen townships within Wayne County to be placed into this form pursuant to then-Gov.-Gen.[1] On November 3rd, 1990 President George H.W. Bush announced that he was moving all U S military forces outposts away from Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom which began on October 17th with Operation Neptune's Spear which ended two days later on October 22nd 1990 when General Abdul Rauf bin Laden was killed[2]. This caused many business owners throughout rural Michigan to suspend operations due to fear for their employees' safety if they were not able to leave work early enough for their shifts at home; however most people who lost their jobs continued working anyway as long as they could find another job before it expired or until they were laid off when coverage ends on November 3rd 1990[3]. A few businesses did go bankrupt during this time but most buildings still stand today including the former Post Office building which still stands vacant now

The post-Civil War years were difficult for New Baltimore.
