The first post office was established inmuskegon heights in 1861. In 1865, John Prentice opened his grocery store here and became one of the early merchants ofMuskegon Heights. He also built a large home on West Main Street which still stands today as a museum called Prentice Manor Museum & Cultural Center Inc.. In 1903, Mrs Anna Cockerill opened her own grocery store here which became one ofthe most popular stores in town until it closed its doors in 1978 due to changesin retail shopping patterns across America during that time period! In 1937-1938, Muskegon Hills High School (now known as Pioneer Middle School) building was erected on what is now North Avenue east of Broadway street near Stadium Drive after a gift from Mrs Lillian Smith Elliott and her husband Julius Elliott Nye who also served as Mayor of muskEGonHills from 1949 until his death in 1975! This building served as both high school classrooms and administrative offices for many years before it too closed its doors following budget cuts made by then Superintendent Don Ziegler effective fall 2008! A new elementary/junior high school was constructed adjacent to Pioneer Middle School between 1961-1965 when local resident William Fenton donated land b4 this new school! This building remains currently used by MUSKEGON HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AS THEIR NEW ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE!

The community has been home to a variety of cultures and religions over its history, including Roman Catholicism and Native American beliefs. The first residents of Muskegon Heights were white men, many of whom had originated from Ohio. By 1887, there were about 20 people living in the town. In 1886, a group of Irish Catholics settled in Muskegon Heights and soon began preaching their religion to local native Americans. Before long, religious services were being held every evening at the Old Catholic church on Main Street. In 1889, another group of white men bought land east of Muskegon Heights from the Potawatomi Nation for $2 per acre (the equivalent of $ in 2018). This new location would become known as Muskegon Heights Parkland because it included some of the most natural resources available within that region: vast tracts of timberline forest and rich agricultural land. It wasn’t until 1907 that more permanent homes began to be erected in what is now Muskegon Heights Parkland. During World War I, many residents enlisted in military service and musketry training was popular among young men during that time period; this also contributed to why so many businesses around town opened up during that wartime period – business owners could offer their employees free firearms Training for no charge! After World War II ended, most residents returned home but a few did stay behind to help manage various aspects of village life such as finances or providing farm work assistance to other households nearby.
