Mount Pleasant is a small town in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–Oakland Township (MI) community and is located about 25 miles east of Lansing on M-4. The village first developed as a small farmstead in 1871 by Samuel Huntington and his family. They named it after Mount Pleasant, New York, where they were living at the time. The Huntingtons moved to Mount Pleasant in 1875 and continued to operate their farm until 1951. In 1927, Alma Ladd became the first female mayor of Mount Pleasant when she was elected as a Democrat to fill an unexpired term caused by her husband's death. From 1951 through 1984, Mayor Ladd served two terms consecutively before retiring due to age. In1960, the Muskegon Heights School District opened its new school called Muskegon Heights High Schools which replaced Redeemer Presbyterian Church which had been used for educational purposes since 1907 but no longer functioned as a school because it was too small for all of the students who desired to attend it and also because there wasn't enough money available from state coffers for new schools in that district at that time. The current high school building was built in 1967 on land donated by Mrs. Anna Bassett Hubbard who also raised money for various local charities including Build-A-House which provides houses for families with children who are unable to live on their own due to economic reasons or other causes such as illness or war veteran status Muskegon Heights Middle School opened in 1984 adjacent to Redeemer Presbyterian Church which closed its doors after 30 years serving students from grades 6 through 8 In 2001, Mount Pleasant experienced another significant change when Tim Hortons Coffee & Tea started operations inside the old Masonic Temple on Main Street next door to the high school providing coffee and pastries starting same day throughout most of downtown including lunchtime In 2009 Whitecaps FC announced they would be moving from Toronto FC's then home stadium BMO Field into newly renovated MAPFRE Stadium which will seat over 76,000 people making it one of North America's largest soccer venues

It is part of the Holland–Grand Rapids–Holland, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a post office called "New Beginnings" on July 10, 1871, on land donated by General John C. Frémont to promote trade and commerce in his new western territory. A post office called "Pemberton" was established here on May 5th 1890 and remained open until 1901 when it was closed due to mail fraud by Postmaster Edward Murchison who had received benefits from Ohio's pensions program while working as an inspector for the postal service in that state. In 1903, Pemberton Township was renamed after John Quincy Adams because he had been one of several key legislators during their initial effort to gain statehood for Michigan which failed but they succeeded eight years later with his death at age 84%. The village continued under this new name until 1940 when it reverted back to its original name following World War II enemy action against American forces which destroyed most of the previous structures associated with Mountpleasant Village including both its Post Office building and its commercial center located south of US-131 between US-280 and US-21W just north of present day Maple Street east of Washington Avenue between Gordon Boulevard & Ionia Road

The first settler in what is now Mount Pleasant Township was John Chapman. In 1837, Amos Morse constructed a mill on the outlet of the Muskegon River. The first post office in Mount Pleasant Township was established in 1841. In 1865, General George Armstrong Custer's regiment arrived at Fort Dearborn and Camp Halleck to camp near present-day Mount Pleasant.
