Mount Pleasant is a city in the Ottawa County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wentworth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settler in what is now Mount Pleasant was David Capps in 1825. By 1840, there were six families living in the town. In 1848, a post office called "Mount Pleasant" was established and remained in operation until it closed on July 9, 1949. In 1874, Mount Pleasant became an incorporated village when all of Ottawa County was organized into townships. On November 3 of that year, Mount Pleasant's incorporation as a city occurred with a population of 705 people. On December 6, 1907, bridge over the Maumee River opened to traffic making Mountpleasant one of the first cities to have bridges span a major river in Michigan. The opening made way for more industry and growth and helped spur development around town which continues to this day with businesses like Ford Motor Company and Mack Trucks located near downtown MtPleasant Today as well as back then Mount Pleasant had many industries including: lumberyards (now owned by Chilton Corporation), breweries (now defunct), blacksmithing shops (now closed), carriage factories (now gone), wagon production plants (gone) and even a hospital! Today much less has been left behind but memories remain long after these days are gone!

Mount Pleasant is a village in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,453 at the 2010 census. It is the easternmost village in Michigan and the only village in Washtenaw County without a major metropolitan area. The first settler in Mount Pleasant was John Reynolds who arrived on July 1, 1814. He built a cabin on what would become the present-day east side of town. A school was opened in 1824 and became known as "the good old Harrison School." In 1827, Judge James Hall sold land to David Sibley which he used for his farmstead called Sibley's Grove. On November 8, 1830, Smith & Wesson rifle company founded by Nathan Cooley became part of this community when their pistols were accepted into circulation within Mount Pleasant limits. In 1836-37 Amos Stroud built a mill on the creek that flows through town center; it still stands today and provides power to many businesses in town today. Blacksmiths soon followed suit and mills were erected throughout Mount Pleasant until about 1870 when they largely stopped due to technological advancements that made other means of manufacturing more efficient such as water powered mills. By 1850 there were over 100 residents living in Mountpleasant with most living close to their homes either working at their families' homes or running local stores which ranged from general store run by Abram & Heman Herries to Mrs Gertrude Gilbert's grocery business which served all of town until 1902 when she retired after forty years operation. Schools also quickly sprung up around this time with three schools opening before1860: one operated by Methodist ministers named "The Good Shepherd" after Rev Dr Samuel Holmes while two others – one operated by Presbyterians named "Enoch" after Elijah Enoch - opened within six months of each other during 1860-61: one serving students from grades 1-6 while the other offered higher education for adults beginning with classes starting September 1861 under Mr J F Crouch (later Bishop) attended by graduate law students from Illinois University Carbondale). The first high school classroomnasium was constructed on Main Street just north of current day library property bounded on the west by First Avenue South then Second Avenue North then Maple Street East then Cedar Street West before its demolition circa 1990; it originally served as an animal barn/kindergarten before being converted into office space including two classrooms complete with electronic whiteboards during prohibition days in 1933 when all public buildings were closed following passage of Prohibition Abuse Prevention Act (PAPA). In 1906 Mt Pleasant had five churches with services taking place at four different locations: First Baptist Church located just south of current day library property across Cedar street west from Depot road thence down Maple street east past Depot road thence along Cedar street west to present day building next door to Masonic Lodge #2 ( Which served as Post Office until 1945 ); Second Presbyterian Church located between Depot Road and Maple Street northwest thereof ; Third Baptist Church located between Depot Road and Park Avenue Northwest ; Fourth BaptistChurch located between Park avenue Northwest and Eastown Boulevard Northeast . By 1910 there were only two churches remaining: Third Baptist Church operating out of leased space off Eastown Boulevard northeast from downtown where services continued until 1945 , Fourth Baptist church operating out of rented space off Park avenue Northwest from downtown where services continued until 1945 . This left much needed room for growth within Mt pleasant but sadly too few people could affordably purchase land so schools couldn't expand beyond what they had initially been designed for - resulting in dwindling enrollments over time leading eventually to closure Of both schools circa 1960 leaving only First Baptist Chapel operational without any instruction facilities available since those days giving rise To name change back to Mount Pleasant High School effective Fall 1959 Mtpleasant has long been known for its copper mines dating back over 100 years producing some 30 million pounds gold worth $10 million dollars per year! Mines started small but rapidly grew larger providing employment for many people including miners themselves who turned out some beautiful copper coins! From 1865-1920 various smelters produced refined products such as lead bullets, lead paint etc., however production ceased due primarily to political instability caused by warring factions vying for control over copper resources! However starting around 1920 things began TO turnaround thanks largely to new management who focused instead upon processing finished product directly into usable items such as jewelry or tools rather than shipping it off piecemeal hitherto! Now production resumed once again thanks largely To state investment earmarked specifically FOR THIS PURPOSE AND THE MAINTAINANCE OF MINING OPERATIONS ! Finally reaching full production capacity nears 50 years ago IN OCTOBER OF 1973!! Today still operations contribute significantly TO THE GDP OF MT PLEASANT!!!
In 1806, the first white settlers in what is now Mount Pleasant Township began to arrive. They were prospectors from Detroit who located a land grant on the bank of the Ottawa River. The first settler in what is now Mount Pleasant Township was Nicholas Dickey, who arrived in 1807. The township was organized on February 14, 1812.
