Mount Pleasant is a small, unincorporated community in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. It lies on the southern border of Washtenaw Township and is east of the village of Mount Pleasant. The population was 539 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Mountpleasant was Levi Cushman in 1837. He named his place Mount Pleasant after his home on the mountain which he had seen from his farmhouse. In 1868, Isaac Shreve moved to Mountpleasant from Muskegon Heights and started a grocery store there. A post office called Mount Pleasant was established in 1871, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1865, John Haggerty built a house on what is now Post Road near present-day Center Road near where the community currently stands. Haggerty became one of the earliest residents of Mountpleasant and founded an early church there which still stands today (Mount Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church). The original MtPleasant School building still exists west of Center Road just beyond its current frame exterior boundaries; it served as a school during many years but no longer functions as such due to damage sustained by storms over time In 1912, MtPleasant purchased land east of Center Road for $1 per acre from Anna Jukes who sold it to George Welch for $5 per acre This purchase created much interest among local farmers as it enabled them to build new roads so they could market their products closer to town In 1924, Mrs. Anna Jukes donated her farmstead along with about . acres adjacent thereto to be used for a public high school campus that would serve all students within Washtenaw Township including those living east of Center Road The first graduating class from Washington High School were given diplomas at Mrs Jukes' farmstead just south of present day Centre road before leaving for their subsequent schools within Washtenaw Township

Mount Pleasant was a small town located in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is one of the few towns in Michigan remaining from before World War II. The town was founded by Methodists and Quakers on the rise of the great Lakeside copper mine in 1858. The mine closed in 1910, but Mountpleasant continued to exist as a suffocatingly small community until it became part of Dearborn Heights when that city was created in 1984. The first settler in Mount Pleasant likely came from Wales around 1795 and named his land "Mount Pleasant." By 1810 there were still only six houses and about fifty people living near what is now First Baptist Church on Maple Avenue. Wealthy speculators had discovered new copper deposits nearby and began buying up tracts of land for development beginning in the late 1800s. In 1902, General Motors purchased an entire township for $1 million dollars including all of present-day Mountpleasant except for two square miles along Huron River which GM built into their Cadillac factory complex known as "The Township". In 1924, when Detroit's Motor City was established as a separate municipality with its own government, Mount pleasant lost its status as a Township Municipality; it instead became part of Dearborn Heights through annexation by that city on December 15th of that year. At the time Dearborn Heights had 806 residents while Mountpleasant had only 1006 residents (making it one of America's smallest towns). However, even though most residents lived within Dearborn Heights' borders they still took pride in their home town because it remained their primary source of social and economic support throughout much of the 20th century despite being surrounded by larger communities such as Detroit and Flint. One reason why so many people remain associated with Mountpleasant is because it is an excellent example of how consolidation can often create smaller towns with similar demographics even Though they may be physically separate from one another they maintain close social ties due to shared culture or history . For example, both Dearborn Heights and Mountpleasant are home to large Masonic Lodges which play an important role in both communities' economies today
The first white people to live in the area now known as Mount Pleasant were a band of Indians who called themselves the Potawatomi. The first European settlement in what is now Mount Pleasant was made by Captain John Saginaw on his ship Michigan in 1795. In 1822, the U.S. government gave land to George Wright, a Scottish-born fur trader, for an experimental farm and village called Detroit Heights. The town was built on sand dunes that rise above the Rouge River and became one of the largest towns in Michigan Territory. In 1834, Detroit Heights was renamed Mount Pleasant after General James K. Polk's governorship of Michigan. In 1861, when Union troops invaded southern Michigan during the American Civil War, they found Fort Wayne (now Indianapolis) abandoned and burned by Confederate forces under General David Butler while Indian allies held back Butler's army from reaching Fort Dearborn (now Chicago). After the war ended, federal authorities began Reconstruction efforts inMichigan and West Michigan with help from President Abraham Lincoln. In 1865, Mount Pleasant was visited by Ulysses S Grant during his visit to India as part of his effort to improve relations between America and India following the war. Mountpleasant experienced rapid growth during Reconstruction thanks to its access to transportation and commerce within Indiana and Illinois as well as its location on a major route linking Chicago with points east via Buffalo and Rochester; this helped it become one of the most important African American communities in America at this time. However, due to race riots that swept America following Brown v Board of Education rulings throughout Midwest cities such as Cleveland (1954), Mountpleasant lost some of its status quo advantages early on in its history but avoided full-blown segregation until later years when black residents faced many challenges integrating into white society specifically through educationally attainable opportunities beyond their homes or neighborhoods alone
