Mount Pleasant is a small town located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is bordered by Clinton to the north and east, Midland to the south, and Wexford to the west. According to the United States Census Bureau, Mount Pleasant has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²), of which, 0.7 square miles (2 km²) is land and 0.1 square mile (0.4 km²) (3%) is water. The community sits on a plateau that overlooks Muskegon Bay and its shoreslines on three sides: Toombs Island is to the east; Isabella Island lies to the west; and Balboa Peninsula borders Muskegon Bay on its southern side. The first settler in what would become Mount Pleasant was John Wood in 1823. In 1834, George Stephenson founded Mt Pleasant Iron Works here with his brother William Stephenson as superintendent of works along Muskegon Bayou near where today's town stands - now known as Missaukee Lake - while also opening up new iron-making sites farther upriver around present-day West Branch Township in Clinton County. By 1840, there were over 100 workers at these works producing nails, screws, bolts and other metals needed for building construction across Michigan's Upper Peninsula including Dearborn Heights in Detroit and Grand Rapids along with much of northeastern Indiana during this period termed "the Great Lakes region." When mail delivery began available from Detroit through Flint beginning in 1855 using horse-drawn wagons transporting goods downriver rather than having men walk or ride horses all day long as had been customary before, business quickly expanded into shipping items such as lumber from outlying areas like Superior became an important industry here too for those still living off subsistence farming back then with only about 3 miles (5 km) separating them from water resources essential for their sustenance vs 10+ miles (>80kms+) distance nowdays for most people across many rural communities throughout America! In 1860 when US President Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated following his successful Ulysses S Grant election victory over Buchanan via popular voteAllowable because he never served in office & effectively took power without being impeached despite numerous reports swirling around at that time indicating serious irregularities going on inside national government due primarily to corruption by powerful political families prominent within it especially influential members of president himself & key advisors including General Andrew Johnson who later became Vice President under Lincoln after he was removed from office due largely to Hatch Act violations!) Mount Pleasant had become one of few communities situated right next door (& even closer geographically because Battle Creek just beyond Clinton County line lay accessible by boat/ferry/caravan etc.)to what would come to be called "The White House"& virtually everyone living here knew intimately both politically & socially both presidents & their families!!over 70% local workforce worked either directly for presidents or indirectly through businesses contracted by them during this time period! This continued high level economic activity well into World War II until production declined significantlydue various factors including world war 2 bombing raids against residential neighborhoods adjacentto main plant locations causing extensive damage although metalworking continued generally nonetheless until 1946 when plant closed due mainly to lack of customers postwar!! post WWII MtPpline largely consisted of agriculture until recently! An interesting footnote about this history significant site & community includes that since 1990 it has been designated a National Historic Landmark!!!

Mount Pleasant is a small town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ann Arbor–Detroit Metropolitan Area. The first people to live in Mount Pleasant were the Huron tribe who arrived in 1814 from Ottawa River territory. The town was named for Captain John Mullen, who led a military expedition up stream from Detroit in 1816 to capture or trade with the Ottawas (the Miamis). Mount Pleasant quickly became an important trading post because it had a good water supply and easy access to lumber and other resources. By 1830, Mount Pleasant had become one of the largest towns in Michigans pre-emptive western region. In 1839, Mount Pleasant became the seat of Washtenaw County after its annexation by Michigan from Wayne County. In 1865, when Washtenaw County was disbanded and merged into Oakland County, Mount Pleasant remained as its only municipality until it incorporated as a village on November 3rd of that year under new township laws passed by the Michigan General Assembly following approval by referendum vote of residents. On October 26th 1907 local resident Jomo Kwesi Lumumba died after weekslong illness at his home on Maple Road in what is now downtown Mountpleasant village; he remains today primarily remembered for his death and subsequent protests against racist policies enacted during World War II by then-Governor Thomas Dewey III
On November 3, 1847, the first settler in Mount Pleasant, Michigan was James H. Holmes. The town was platted on a tract of land that had been forested for years before being granted to Mr. Holmes by the government for his "extraordinary services" in helping to secure Michigan's admission into the Union as a state. The first store in Mount Pleasant was built by John Kapp and operated from 1847-1851. A post office called Mount Pleasant was established in 1852, and remained open until it closed in 1880. In 1854, Mount Pleasant became the seat of power for Detroit County when it was created from portions of Wayne and Oakland counties. In 1865, Detroit County moved to its present location within Macomb County. During World War I, Mount Pleasant served as headquarters for General Motors during production at their plants in Lansing and Grand Rapids (now part of Midland). After the war ended, GM disbanded their plant there and moved all their operations to Flint.
