Mount Pleasant has been home to many notable people over the years, including: General George Armstrong Custer, Ulysses S. Grant, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S Truman. The population of Mount Pleasant peaked at around 100 in the early 1900s but now numbers only about 10 percent of its original size. The town has seen a number of changes over its history: It was once a center for cotton farming and trade; today it is known for its Recreational Vehicle industry which employs many locals throughout the year.

Mount Pleasant, Michigan is a small town located in the lower Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 7,513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights School District. The first people to settle in Mount Pleasant were Native Americans who came from central Canada. The first white person to live in Mount Pleasant was John Roebuck, who settled there in 1844. In 1869, German settlers arrived and soon after built up a community around what is now known as Old Main Street. This community was eventually renamed Mount Pleasant after General John Pemberton's visit there in 1869. In 1898, the village of Mount Pleasant became a municipality and it remained municipally active until it merged with Muskegon Heights on January 1, 2002. At that time, its population had grown to over 10,000 residents. Mountpleasant has several rich cultural traditions which include the annual Oktoberfest celebration which takes place on October 5th each year; three Days of Darkness (October 26-28), an event which celebrates pioneer life and culture; and its own version of Christmas called "Christmas Trees" which occurs every year on December 25th or 26th depending on the season. Additionally, Mountpleasant has one of Michigan's only two golf courses - The Country Club - as well as several restaurants and businesses including The Gap Hotel & Casino and Stoney Creek Brewery

Mount Pleasant, Michigan is a small town located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is home to the Mount Pleasant Grange and Methodist church. It also has a public school system and a few businesses. The first people to live in what is now Mount Pleasant were the Potawatomi tribe. They built Cahokia, one of the most important village sites in pre-Columbian America. The first white people to arrive in what is now Mount Pleasant were Cutter and his party from Illinois on July 4, 1809. They named their new settlement after General George Washington's army that had just fought against France at Yorktown. The area that would become Mount Pleasant was originally part of the Huron Indian Territory until it was ceded to United States by Great Britain in 1795 as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. The land then passed through several hands until it was purchased by John Dickey in 1824 for $5,000 dollars cash and 10 acres of land adjoining present day Washtenaw County Road 3 south of today's town limits. Dickey developed what became known as "the Green Township" which included much of present day Mount Pleasant except for some sections that he donated to Washtenaw Township when he bought it from its predecessor, Lansingburgh Township (now Ann Arbor). By 1830, over 100 homes had been built within Green Township while three churches -Methodist, Congregationalist and Presbyterian - had been erected within two years.. A post office called Mount Pleasant commenced operations on November 2, 1830 under direction of Captain James Fenimore Cooper with letters sent from Michigan City via Marquette River until 1840 when mail stopped being delivered due to increased postage rates set by President Andrew Jackson himself.. In 1848 editor Elijah Howe published "Michigan Pioneer Trails", an account written largely about his experiences working on land purchases during this time period along with other early settlers such as Jeptha Howell and Ebenezer Higgins.. In 1850 David Rice settled near present day Haggerty Lake where he founded Riceville after purchasing 640 acres around what is now Haggerty Lake from John Heffelfinger.. In 1861 Isaac Morrill purchased 705 acres south-east of present-day Haggerty Lake from David Rice making him one of the largest landowners in town history before moving away for good in 1865.. In 1870 abolitionist Lucy Stone moved into her own house east side Main Street which she shared with male slaves who helped care for her children while she worked out her abolitionist beliefs ..
The Mount Pleasant Massacre took place on October 7, 1812, when a group of Native Americans known as the "Mount Pleasant Boys" were killed by white settlers in what is now Mount Pleasant Township, Michigan. The massacre was one of the largest and most bloody massacres of Native Americans in North America.
