Mount Pleasant is a small community in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 9,000 in 2010, and is projected to grow to 10,000 by 2020. The community was named for General James Monongahela, who fought in the Mexican-American War and was wounded at Buena Vista. Mount Pleasant was founded as a small farming village on the east side of Great Lakes Road (now Butterworth Drive) about two miles north of present day Mount Pleasant Elementary School. The first post office opened in 1873. In 1910, the village had 1 store and 7 homes. In 1970, there were only 2 stores and 6 homes. Today, Mount Pleasant has 3 stores and 14 homes. The primary industry in Mount Pleasant until recently has been agriculture with crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat, applesauce orchards, potatoes and other vegetables being grown; however some residents now have expand into manufacturing including several businesses that produce building materials such as tiles or asphalt

In 1892, Congress passed the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) which made it illegal for anyone but licensed firearm dealers to sell firearms without a license. This law stopped many people from owning guns and making them available to those who wanted them. Gun owners had until 1971 to get a license and possess a firearm in order to own one.

Mount Pleasant is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the western border of Washtenaw County. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is known for its white-painted churches and homes dating back to the late 1800s. The townsite was platted in 1836 by John Pemberton as part of an effort to secure land that would be used to build a military post on the western border of Washtenaw County. In 1847, George Stephenson donated land east of present-day Mount Pleasant for a new town site which became Mount Pleasant. The first town meeting took place on May 14, 1847, and approval for the town's plat was given three days later on May 17th. Mount Pleasant grew rapidly from its beginnings and by 1850 it had a store and five buildings. By 1860, there were twenty businesses in Mount Pleasant with a population of 2,000 residents. By 1870, Mount Pleasant had over fifty businesses with a population of 3,000 residents and had become known as one of Michigan's " promotional towns." In 1872, voters passed an ordinance authorizing alcohol sales for first time within the limits of Mountpleasant Township - setting off what would soon be become one of America's most popular liquor sales scenes -and began construction on what would eventually become the history-making White Hall Tavern complex (now called First National Bank). The tavern quickly became known as one of Michigan's most popular tourist attractions and drew large crowds throughout central Michigan during prohibition era celebrations such as Mardi Gras or Presidents' Day gatherings inside its walls – all without ever breaking federal law! In 1916, after years long efforts by local citizens and businessman Al Freeman to have MtPleasant incorporated into Washtenaw County proper as an official borough – which finally happened in 1925 –the once thriving community slowly declined until it reached its current condition today; characterized by aging infrastructure (including many churches) plus modest retail development along Main Street alone
Mount Pleasant was originally a small, isolated community located on the eastern edge of what is now the city of Detroit. The residents of Mount Pleasant were first established in 1836, when they organized together to purchase land in what is now the Beaux-Arts district of downtown Detroit. In 1847, the community became part of Pontiac and was renamed Mount Pleasant after General James K. Polk, who had beenelected president that year. In 1868, Mount Pleasant moved to its current location on University Avenue within the present day boundaries of Detroit. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak during World War II when it had a population of over 1,500 people. After the war ended, the population began to decline and by 1950 it had only 100 residents remaining. Today, Mountpleasant remains a small agricultural community with a few homes still standing in town.
